![]() ![]() Japanese Grand Prix Suzuka International Racing Course, Suzuka City, Mie, Japan Race Distance: 53 laps, 307.471 km The famous Suzuka figure-8 started life in 1962 as a test track for the Honda company. Today, it's one of the world's most famous tracks, and a driver favorite. A combination of fast straights, tight hairpins and chicanes, long dynamic sweepers, and elevations changes leads to many overtaking opportunities. In addition to the cross-over bridge/tunnel that allows the figure-8 layout, Suzuka's other famous element is 130R, a 130 meter radius curve taken flat-out in an F1 car. On an eventful day at Suzuka, following morning qualifying due to a typhoon cancelling all Saturday sessions, Valtteri Bottas jumped Sebastian Vettel at the start on his way to the win in Japan. Vettel fought off Lewis Hamilton at the end to keep second with Hamilton third. The race results further down the points were affected by an early end of the race being declared, and the disqualification of both Renault cars for using an illegal driver aid, which gave Sergio Perez an eighth place finish despite him being nudged off by Pierre Gasly on the penultimate lap, and moved various other drivers up the classification. As a result Mercedes clinches the constructor's championship for a sixth consecutive time! Round 17 goes to Reno Stack, which jumps him back to third overall, Chris S continues his good run of form with second, and Georgethefierce takes third. Overall curley continues to edge out DP#1 at the top. We're in Mexico next in two weeks and the available picks for everyone are getting scarcer!
