Canada 10-12 Jun 2011Grand Prix du Canada Circuit de Gilles Villenuve, Montreal, Canada Race Distance: 70 laps, 305.270 km After a hiatus from the schedule in 2009, the Canadian Grand Prix return in 2010, held on Isle Notre Dame in Montreal at Circuit de Gille Villeneuve. For most of the year, the course is a simple road that follows the shape of the island's park. But for one week of the year, it's converted into one of Formula 1's fastest courses. The most (in)famous part of the track is known as the "Wall of Champions", a barrier on the exit of the final chicane leading to the front straight that's taken several past F1 champs out of the race. Ironically, the wall is labeled "Bienvenue au Québec" (Welcome to Quebec). Hamilton overcame tire issues to take the win. Webber had his own tire issues, and Vettel suffered yet another mechanical failure, allowing Button and Alonso to take 2nd and 3rd. Vettel scores yet another pole for Red Bull, but it's a surprising result for Ferrari who qualify 2nd and 3rd at the very fast Circuit Gille Villeneuve. Also beating expectations are Mercedes teammates Schumacher and Rosberg who will start 8th and 6th. The top 10 qualifiers in Canada: VET ALO MAS WEB HAM ROS BUT MSC HEI PET The long soggy race in Canada is red flagged for over 2 hours due to heavy rain and finishes with 5 safety car periods. Looking to win from pole, Vettel put on another Schumachian display leading the whole race until the last lap. Then a small bobble in a chicane allowed hard pressing Button to snatch the win after coming from as far back as dead last, surviving earlier contact with both teammate Hamilton and Alonso that took both the other drivers out. Vettel is left to 2nd place, with Red Bull teammate Webber clawing his way to the podium with a car struggling mechanically. Schumacher showed his epic talent in the wet with a fantastic drive to the front that fell short when the track finally dried out in the closing laps and finishes 4th. Petrov nabs 5th while Massa takes a disappointing 6th after running in the top 3 for much of the race.
