Monaco   26-29 May 2011
Grand Prix de Monaco
Circuit de Monaco Monte Carlo, Monaco
Race Distance: 78 laps, 260.520 km

The Monaco Grand Prix has been around since 1929 and has evolved into not just the most spectacular race of the F1 calendar, but perhaps the most amazing race in all of motorsports.

The course has remained nearly unchanged since the inception of the event resulting in a narrow, bumpy course where the cars race wheel to wheel mere inches away from the Armco walls. The course is so tight, the teams are forces to use one-off suspension designs to get around the tightest hairpin of the season.

Silly safety car finishes aside, the 2010 race was made interesting by surprise speed in the Renault driven by Kubica who mixed it up with the RedBull cars. Webber took the win, Vettel 2nd, Kubica 3rd.
Vettel continues to dominate the poles in Monaco, setting the fastest lap in a red-flag interrupted Q3. Button sneaks to his highest starting position of the season in 2nd. While Webber slips to 3rd from his more usual 2nd slot. Alonso and Schumacher round out the top 5.

The big news from qualifying is the wreck by Perez who hits extremely hard into the barriers beyond the nouvelle chicane after losing control exiting the tunnel. The terrible wreck appeared to knock Perez unconscious, who was extracted and removed from the track by ambulance. Reports are he suffered a concussion and bruised leg, but should be racing in Montreal.

Vettel wins again in world champion fashion, taking his 1st Monaco victory. His drive was a phenomenal effort as he fought off world champs Alonso and Button, both on much newer tires. The 3-way fight for the least lasted the last 15 or so laps, but was interrupted by another red-flag period, this time for Petrov's hard crash. The race was restarted on fresh tires all around with 6 laps to go, resulting in no real chance for the other podium finishers to threaten Vettel.

Webber places 4th, making a pass on Kobayashi right at the end who finishes a surprise 5th. Hamilton bangs and bounces his way though the field involved in 3 accidents, 2 resulting in penalties for him, to somehow finish 6th.
