China 15-17 Apr 2011UBS Chinese Grand Prix Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, China Race Distance: 56 laps, 305.066 km The Shanghai International Circuit is another Hermann Tilke track featuring a pair of long straights with passing opportunities at their ends. Like the Malaysian circuit, the track features an interesting turn 1-2-3-4 complex where the drivers must navigate a long, sharply decreasing right turn, followed by a hard left hand hairpin. Light rain shaped the 2010 race, generating two safety car periods. Button wons the race on tire strategy and preservation. Hamilton drove through traffic to make it a McLaren 1-2. Rosberg rounded out the podium for a second race in a row. Vettel goes 3 for 3 with yet another pole position. But teammate Webber is caught out by mechanical issues and is unable to escape elimination in Q1. Button bests Hamilton by just 0.04 seconds to place the two McLaren's 2nd and 3rd on the grid. While Rosberg's Mercedes will lead the Ferraris of Alonso and Massa. Rounding out the top 10 are four unexpected drivers: Alguersuari, di Resta, Buemi and Petrov who made Q3 despite a gearbox failure at the end of Q2. The top 10 qualifiers in China: VET BUT HAM ROS ALO MAS ALG DIR BUE PET A fantastic and exciting race, from start to finish, China began with the McLarens jumping past Vettel at the lights. Vettel would fight back, only to finish 2nd when probable KERS issues and worn tires opened the door for Hamilton to make a late pass for the win. Putting in an amazing drive, Webber comes from P18 to take the last position on the podium. Button and Rosberg stay near the front to take 4th and 5th, while Massa in 6th bests his teammate Alonso in 7th. Alguersuari was the only retirement, coming due to a mis-fitted wheel that departed the car after his first pit stop.
