Canada - 11-13 Jun 2010Grand Prix du Canada Circuit de Gilles Villenuve, Montreal, Canada Race Distance: 70 laps, 305.270 km After a hiatus from the schedule in 2009, the Canadian Grand Prix is back, held on Isle Notre Dame in Montreal at Circuit de Gille Villeneuve. For most of the year, the course is a simple road that follows the shape of the island's park. But for one week of the year, it's converted into one of Formula 1's fastest courses. The most (in)famous part of the track is known as the "Wall of Champions", a barrier on the exit of the final chicane leading to the front straight that's taken several past F1 champs out of the race. Ironically, the wall is labeled "Bienvenue au Québec" (Welcome to Quebec). In 2008, Kubica scored his first victory, driving for BMW. Teammate Heidfeld took second, and now-retired David Coulthard placed 3rd. Hamilton breaks the Red Bull pole position dominance by knocking out a top lap over Webber and Vettel. However, Hamilton's pole comes with a cost as he has to use the softer optional compound tires while the Red Bull team sticks to the harder prime tires for the start of the race which should give them the advantage after the first few opening laps. The rest of the field is unsurprising, with the exception of Liuzzi who hauls his Force India into the 6th starting position, and Schumacher who fails to exit Q2 and will start 13th. The top 10 starting positions for Canada: HAM WEB VET ALO BUT LIU MAS KUB SUT ROS The return to Canada results in a race of furious pace, where lack of lasting tires mixes up the field's strategies on the fly. Hamilton looked sure to be pounced on by the Red Bull cars when his soft tires didn't appear to last long into the first stint. But he was able to fight back and take the win as Webber falls off pace trying to make a set of hard tires last and Vettel is once again snookered by a system failure on the car. Button and Alonso are also able to capitalize on Red Bull's lack of pace, finishing 2nd and 3rd. Vettel nurses his car home in 4th and Webber takes 5th.
