Another excellent fantasy season is on the books!
Unlike the come-from-behind run by Vettel, our 2010 fantasy champion wins his season in dominant fashion. Never having been lower than 3rd overall after the 4th round, curley takes the fantasy championship win as the only competitor to score over 1000 points (1045). Averaging 55 points per round, and scoring less than 45 points only 3 times, curley shows he really knows his F1 by making good picks even when the driver roster ran thin. Congratulations to curley on his 1st fantasy championship!
Placing 2nd overall is Carrie. Carrie was the dominant force during the 2nd half of the season, holding the top spot from round 9 to round 16, but just ran out of drivers to pick during the final 4 rounds. Scoring 960 points, averaging 50.5 points per round, and picking the winner 12 times, Carrie was the only person with a shot to beat curley when it came down to the end. Congrats to Carrie on her 2nd place standing!
Coming on strong during the last few rounds, sperry is our 3rd place overall finisher. Averaging 50.1 points per round, he nearly caught carrie for 2nd on the last round, but ended up just short due to a few low scoring rounds scattered throughout the season. sperry also picked the winning driver 12 times throughout the season, finishing with 953 total points.
zpeed, Irfan and David round out the season standings all within 15 points of 2nd place. zpeed finishes just 3 points out of the money, and Irfan just 1 point behind him, David finishes with 944 points. Last season's champ lisaab comes in 7th overall, her late push coming just too late to score in the money.
MattR's season was unfortunately lackluster. Finishing 8th, he simply never seemed to connect with his strategy and ended with too many 30 point rounds. Nick ran a strong season, but was hampered by a missed round in Korea, mirroring perhaps Webber's season. 7thBeatle road a season-long roller coaster that ran out of gas near the finish.
Tahoe RX7, Rod R, April and Van all had missed rounds that hurt their chances. And tysonk's move to Los Angeles disrupted his season.
Based on the published split, here are the payouts for the top 3:
1st place, 50% payout: curley $150
2nd place, 30% payout: Carrie $90
3rd place, 20% payout: sperry $60
Winners, please email your paypal address at administrator@seccs.org, and I will send the funds your way ASAP! Congrats to our money winners!
Thanks to all for a fantastic season. Start honing your strategies for next season. Rumors abound, but we may see even more teams and drivers to pick from for a 20 round season! And don't hesitate if you've got suggestions for next season's rules? Should we have more or less picks per round? More or less picks per driver? Should we drop 1 or 2 lowest scoring rounds? Let me know, either by email, or on the site blog (the site will remain up for a while before we reboot for 2011).
Thanks to all for a fantastic season! See you next year!

It looks like a case to too-little too-late for many folks who saved their picks for the closing rounds. lisaab, Tahoe RX7, Irfan, April and sperry all score 40 or more points this round, allowing them to move up in the standings, but it looks like the lead held by curley and Carrie are able to hold.
lisaab grabs a huge 70 points, bumping her up to 10th overall. Irfan's 49 points nets him two spots and puts him into 3rd overall, a money winning position, but just 14 points ahead of David in 4th.
It all comes down to the final round in Abu Dhabi. curley holds a 59 point lead over Carrie, and both are nearly out of good picks. Irfan and David are both mathematically too far behind to take the overall lead, but they will be fighting for 3rd place money, with the outside chance of slipping as high as 2nd.
zpeed and sperry, currently in 5th and 6th overall, still have a few good drivers up their sleeves but with only 80 points available in the final round, the best they can hope for is an unlikely 2nd place overall finish.
It all comes down to this weekend. The final race this season in magical Abu Dhabi will determine both the driver's championship and the fantasy championship. Good luck to all with your final picks!

The inaugural Korean GP is a wet mess, resulting in a shake up for the driver's championship as both Red Bull cars fail to finish.
Making the best of the round, and vaulting himself into the overall fantasy lead is curley. A massive 68 point round puts him on top over Carries by 30 points. With only two rounds to go, curley looks to be in fantastic shape.
Taking 2nd in Korea is Irfan who moves up 3 positions overall into 5th by grabbing 53 points. lisaab is 3rd with 50 points, but nets no positions in the fantasy championship. David is 4th this round, making enough points to move up one spot into 3rd overall, and into the money.
Hit hardest by the round is Nick who fails to make picks and drops 3 positions 3rd to 6th.
With just two rounds remaining, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, it's going to be a tight finish. curley and Carrie look to be fighting for the lead; while David, 7thBeatle, Irfan and Nick all have a great shot at 3rd.

Another Japanese GP is on the books!
sperry comes up big with a whopping 70 points to move up 3 spots overall into 7th. Tahoe RX7 reels in 55 points for 2nd this round, with zpeed and lisaab close behind with 53 and 52 points respectively, all three gaining one position overall.
David's 41 points are enough to move up 2 spots into 4th overall, while the top 3 remain in order. curley does however net 10 points on Carrie, making the fight for the lead an 11 point affair.
We go next to the brand new circuit in Korea... hopefully. At this time, the circuit has not completed final inspection, but F1 administration insists the race will be held. We'll know for sure in just 2 weeks!

F1's only night race is complete!
zpeed is on top under the lights, grabbing a big 74 points, and moving himself up 2 spots overall to 7th. Tahoe RX7 makes 70 points for 2nd this round, and lisaab makes 64 points for 3rd. curley's 63 points bumps him up one spot past Nick to take 2nd overall.
7thBeatle also moves up one spot overall into 4th, leading Irfan only on the basis of pick quality rather than points.
Dropping one spot each: Rod R, MattR, Irfan, and Nick.
Picks are getting sparse now, with only 4 races remaining. Up next, the fantastic Suzuka Circuit in Japan. It's a beautiful flowing circuit, and a drivers' favorite. Time to scrape the barrel folks, and try to eek out some points! Less than 100 points separate the top 6 in the fantasy championship!

The last European round is complete. Just 5 more remain as the season wraps up.
While the driver's championship tightens up, the picks for Italy fail to make any major changes in the overall fantasy standings. Only Rod R moves up by taking a 70 point win this round. April nabs 2nd with 62 points, just ahead of David and Van who tie for 3rd with 60. MattR rounds out the top 5 with 59 points.
It's time to make the swing though the Pacific Rim! The night race in Singapore leads off the trip that also includes Japan and the new circuit in Korea. It's down to the wire now, with the top 3 neck and neck. Get your picks in!

Another epic battle in Belgium, and another round closer to sorting out who's best in 2010.
The best for this round comes from 7thBeatle, who scores 68 points, moving him up one position overall to 5th. Tahoe RX7 is 2nd with 65 points. Nick and sperry tie for 3rd with 63 points, with Nick making up lots of points but still holding station at 2nd overall, and sperry moving up one overall to 9th. Van rounds out the top 5 with 62 points.
From one of the most difficult tracks of the season, to one of the fastest. The next race is at Monza, where long straights broken up by very slow chicanes results in a track where downforce is almost unnecessary. Get your picks in for the Italian Grand Prix, in just 2 weeks!

If Webber wins the championship this season, it was his drive at Hungary that makes him deserving of it in my mind.
That was one hell of a run to make the option tires last half the race *and* gap the field by 25+ seconds.

Hungary is an epic race for Webber, and another fantasy round win for Carrie who stretches out her overall lead with 74 points. April, MattR, Van, and zpeed round out the top 5 by all picking the same to tie for 2nd this round at 70 points. MattR and zpeed are both able to move up one spot each overall.
It's now time for the month long summer break for the F1 teams. The next race will be in late August at the fabled Spa-Francorchamps course in Belgium. And while the F1 season is "on break" you can bet the teams won't be on holiday. Expect the technical development of the cars to be the greatest between any other two races this season. Will Ferrari be able to reach parity with Red Bull? Can McLaren get back to the pace they had in Britain?
Just a note for the upcoming Belgium GP, Schumacher will start with a 10 spot penalty due to his aggressive blocking of former teammate Barrichello in Hungary.

It's a three way tie for the fantasy win in Germany, with Irfan, Rod, and Tahoe RX7 all selecting the same drivers. With 70 points, Irfan maintains his 5th place overall, while Rod moves up 2 spots (to 10th) and Tahoe RX7 moves up 1 (to 12th).
7thBeatle and David round out the top 5 for round 11 with 69 and 67 points respectively.
There's no time off for the teams, as the next round comes this weekend in Hungary. The Hungaroring was the site of Massa's terrible wreck last season where a spring off the car in front of him impacted his head, ending the Brazilian's season. Can Massa build on his team's new found pace and head back to the scene of his wreck to take the victory?

It's neck and neck at the top of the standing between Carrie and Nick, but Nick is unable to make up any ground on championship leading Carrie as they both make identical 1st place picks worth 76 points this round. Nick does however slot into 2nd overall behind Carrie as curley drops one spot overall to 3rd this round.
Taking 3rd place this weekend is 7thBeatle who pulls in 70 points, moving up one spot overall to 6th. Next is David who's both 4th in the round, and 4th overall, with his 61 points from Britain added to his season total. Rounding out the top 5 is sperry with 55 points.
The season is past the halfway point now as the European swing continues next in Germany. This year's German GP will be held in Hockenheim as the alternating venue switches away from the fabled Nurburgring for the 2010 event. Start planning your picks, the next race is just 2 weeks away!

Tying for the lead in Valencia is curley and zpeed who both grab 55 points. Both of them move up one spot overall with their winning round, with curley moving up to 2nd in the fantasy championship.
Carrie takes third this round with 54 points which is enough for her to step into the overall lead.
7thBeatle, David, and Van all tie for 4th with 48 points.
It's the half-way point of the season, and the European swing continues in next in England's classic home for motorsport, Silverstone. This season's British GP will feature the new Arena Circuit revision of the famous airfield course.

April picks the top 5 for a perfect round, while Nick grabs 2nd this round with 68 points to move up two spots into the overall lead by just a single point over Carrie.
Rod R ties for second this round, and David and MattR round out the top 5 with 66 points a piece. David and MattR both make up some ground in the overall standings with their good results, and so does 7thBeatle who jumps up a whopping 4 positions overall with his 6th place round result.
The heart of the F1 season starts in two weeks as the circus returns to Europe. Valencia will mark the start of the European swing of the season!

Well, I don't think I've ever been more pissed off at two drivers before. On one hand, sure Vettel should know Webber is impossible to pass because he's near genius at pinching off an attack, but to see Webber pull that crap on his own teammate... IMO he should have let Vettel go and passed him back by having the ideal line into the corner.

Making the most out of the tight 4-way battle in Turkey, Irfan reels in a whopping 78 points, vaulting him up 2 spots to 4th overall. Carrie is excellent a second week in a row with 70 points, taking her to 2nd overall. curley maintains his overall lead with 3rd place this round and 68 points. lisaab and sperry round out the top 5, both gaining 2 spots overall in the fantasy championship.

zpeed grabs 63 points for 2nd place this round, with Rod R right behind in 3rd making 62 points and saving an ALO pick for later.
April and Nick tie this round at 61 points with identical picks to round out the top 5.
The big gainer this round was Irfan who moves up 3 positions overall into 6th with 59 points.

Finally a dry race, as the first European round is complete.
Knocking off a perfect set of picks is David who selects the top five for a full 80 points. He moves up 3 spots to 7th overall.
curley, MattR and sperry are nearly perfect with identical 74 point picks tying for 2nd this round. MattR makes the most of his points moving up 2 spots overall, while curley and sperry both move up one spot each, but curley does grab the overall lead after round 5.

Once again weather tosses the dice and randomizes the qualifying order while providing a fantastic race.
Grabbing the round by the horns is lisaab who just misses a perfect round by getting 5 of the top 6. Her 76 points vaults her up 4 positions to 7th overall.
Nick grabs second this round with 73 points and hold on to his overall lead. Carrie is up one position with a 71 point 3rd place round. Curley and Rod R round out the top five by tying for 4th with 70 points.

The rain that mixed up qualifying stayed away for the race, leaving a fantastic event where many drivers came from far back in the pack to score points.
Taking top honors this week in the Fantasy Championship is MattR who clocks in with 66 points, bumping him up 4 places to 7th overall. Nick has another good round, pulling down 64 points moving him into the overall lead. curley and sperry take 3rd and 4th with 55 and 53 points respectively. While Carrie, Irfan and Van all tie for 5th this round with identical scoring picks worth 52 points.

It was a wet start to the Australian GP that resulted in a fantastic race as things dried out. Tons of passing, the ubiquitous Australian Safety Car, and plenty of surprises in the final finishing order.
Making the most out of the carnage is Van who reels in 61 points and vaults into 2nd overall. Tahoe RX7 grabs second just one point back which is good enough to take the overall lead. Carrie, tysonk, and Rod R all score in the 50's to round out the top five.

I think the 5 picks will be just as interesting in the long run since each pick will have more weight, *and* it won't be such a chore.
One of the most important things we wanted for this league is for it to be fun and easy for even casual F1 fans, and 10 picks was leaving the casual folks just picking randomly because they didn't want to spend an hour researching 10 drivers for the round.

Round 1 is complete!
After wading through the massive number of picks, it was decided in order to simplify the season to reduce the number of picks per round from 10 to 5. Each participant keeps their 5 highest scoring picks from their 10, and the other 5 picks have been returned to the pool. From here on out, you will only need to pick 5 drivers each round.
The side effect of reducing the picks this way means there's a 6-way tie for first place after round 1, with 7thBeatle, David, Irfan, Nick, sperry and Tahoe RX7 all picking the top 5 drivers and scoring the max 80 points for the event. Future rounds will likely not end this way, but we should see some close competition with each participant making 5 picks towards the 10 scoring positions.
And once again, because of the short notice before the season start, we will be keeping registration open until Round 2 in Australia, which is just 2 weeks away! So, get signed up, and get your picks in!

Welcome to the 2010 Fantasy F1 season!
This is our 5th year now, and the website has been freshly re-vamped for the season. The major change was to support the new 10 scoring positions and point schedule, but in addition, we now have automatic registration integrated to PayPal as well as a ton of performance improvements.
So, meander over to the Registration page, and feel free to create your account! We're getting a bit of a late start this year, so registration will remain open even after the first round is complete. And while it's possible to make up for missing a round, it's certainly better not to play catch-up, so register ASAP!
