Great Britain - 09-11 Jul 2010Santander British Grand Prix Silverstone Circuit, Northhamptonshire, United Kingdom Race Distance: 60 laps, 191.603 mi / 308.355 km After some tense moments in the off season where discussions were held over moving the location of the British GP, cooler heads prevailed and the race remains at the fantastic Silverstone Circuit. Built on a WWII bomber base, the Silverstone roughly follows the perimeter road surrounding the bases three runways. The track is fairly non-technical, with long fast straights connected together by corners and chicanes. New for this season is the "Arena Complex", originally designed for MotoGP, it will be used for the F1 race as well. Last year, RedBull took over as Vettel won the race from pole with teammate Webber placing 2nd. Barrichello slots in at 3rd. Red Bull continues their domination by locking out the front row yet again. This time with Vettel on pole ahead of Webber. The Red Bull cars look untouchable at Silverstone, as the are the only cars flat-out through Copse. The next four grid spots are filled with different teams with the cars of Alonso (Ferrari), Hamilton (McLaren), Rosberg (Mercedes), and Kubica (Renault), showing that while Red Bull still has the technical advantage, the rest of the field has made great gains resulting in parity. The top 10 in Britain: VET WEB ALO HAM ROS KUB MAS BAR DLR MSC Vettel's pole position advantage is short lived, as teammate Webber jumps past him at the start. Also making a good start is Hamilton from 4th who runs up on Vettel into the Maggots/Becketts complex on lap 1, the unfortunate contact sends Vettel into the pits for a punctured rear tire. Vettel would fight back to 7th by running the whole race on a single set of new tires. Webber leads from turn 1 to the end of the race, putting on a dominant performance, as no other driver ever makes a real threat for the lead. Hamilton holds station in 2nd. Rosberg take the last spot on the podium with an excellent drive, while Button overcomes a terrible 14th starting position to come 4th. The 5th spot is nabbed by Barrichello as his Williams-Cosworth chassis comes alive.
