The Circuit de Catalunya is located near Barcelona, Spain. This track includes many different elements that require a car to be well-rounded and balanced at all speeds. Traditionally, passing is rare at the circuit due to the high speed sweepers that prevent a following car from being able to keep up because of dirty air.

At the 2009 race, Brawn continued its domination of the season, relying on their unequaled rear-diffuser to stay ahead of the pack at the sweeping circuit and finishing Button 1, Barrichello 2. Webber took third. Qualifying Summary: Red Bull continues their dominate qualifying this season with another locked out front row. Webber takes the top spot, Vettel second.

Hamilton and Button also qualify well with their 3rd and 5th place starting positions.

Alonso will start 4th in front of his home fans. Schumacher finally bests teammate Rosberg and will start 6th.

Teammate Vettel on the other hand has to put in a brilliant drive in the face of nearly everything going wrong to come home 3rd. From unscheduled and long pit stops, to near wrecks on track, to brake failure during the closing laps, it was everything the German could do to fight off catastrophe.

Finishing between the two Red Bull cars is Alonso in front of his home crowd. Alonso looked to be finishing 4th as the race wound down, but Vettel's unscheduled tire change late in the race handed him 3rd, and later, Hamilton's tire failure and resulting shunt gave him 2nd.
