Grande Premio do Brazil
Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace (Interlagos), Sao Paulo, Brazil
71 laps, 305.909 km (190.067 mi)

Autódromo José Carlos Pace, otherwise known as Interlagos, which literally means "between lakes" is the site of Brazilian GP. The track is situated on a hilly, swampy area between two lakes, resulting in a track with lots of elevation changes and notorious bumps.

Traditionally, the race in Brazil is the final race of the season, and has decided the driver's championship in recent years. The last two years however, the addition of Abu Dhabi has made Brazil the second to last of the season.

The 2009 race once again decided the driver's championship as Button secured enough points to mathematically eliminate all others. Barrichello started on pole for his home race, but failed to convert and finished in 8th after a puncture. Webber won the race, Kubica took 2nd, and Hamilton placed 3rd.
In what must definitely be the greatest qualifying upset of the season, rookie Williams driver Hulkenberg scores his first career pole position by setting the fastest lap in Q3 by more than a second over Red Bull teammates Vettel and Webber.

Hulkenberg's sensational lap came amid drying conditions just as the track became good enough to switch to the option slick tires. As the checkers came out, no one could scrape together a lap to beat Hulkenberg's posted time, except Hulkenberg himself as he bested his lap with another 1.1 seconds faster than 2nd fastest Vettel.

Four of the five championship contenders will start behind Hulkenberg, Vettel, Webber, Hamilton, and Alonso. Hometown driver Barrichello will start 6th, while other hometown heroes Massa (9th) and Di Grassi (22nd) will start further back.

No one believed Hulkenberg's phenomenal pole position would last in the race, but the young driver fought hard nonetheless, doing a good job to hold off the attacks of the season's top drivers. Vettel and Webber were able to make relatively short work of the rookie early in the race, but Hulkenberg held his poise and then did well to stave off Hamilton and Alonso for longer than expected.

When the pit stops cycled around, Hulkenberg found himself in the mid pack, while the race up front went to the Red Bulls of Vettel and Webber.

In a move that may hand the driver's championship to Alonso, Red Bull failed to enact team orders to place Webber ahead of Vettel before the race end. Thus both drivers are mathematically in place to win the championship over leader Alonso, but Alonso has an 8 point cushion rather than a single point lead, after finishing 3rd in Brazil behind Vettel then Webber.

A 5th place finish by Button has eliminated him from the championship race, while Hamilton's 4th leaves him all but out of the chase.
