 Europe - 25-27 Jun 2010Telefonica Grand Prix of Europe Circuit de Valencia, Valencia, Spain Race Distance: 57 laps, 308.883 km Once again the European GP will be held at the Valencia Street Circuit in the port city of Valencia, Spain. Built out of the waterfront city streets, the track is similar to Monaco (and to Long Beach for US open wheel fans). The track features 25 corners and is relatively high-speed for a street course. The 2009 race was won by Barrichello who had to pass both McLarens on his way to victory. Hamilton 2nd, Raikkonen 3rd. It's Red Bull domination once again, this time at a circuit they weren't expecting to dominate due to all the new exhaust blown diffusers on several teams cars. This time Vettel takes the nod over Webber. The Ferrari cars look strong as well starting in 4th and 5th with Alonso in front of Massa. Hamilton will start 3rd, Button 7th, and Kubica puts in a terrific lap to start 6th. A chaotic event leaves leaves some big names at the bottom of the stack and some unfamiliar names in the points. A poor start by Webber leaves him languishing in traffic, triggering the team to bring him in for an early stop. Unfortunately that leaves him chasing back marker Kovalainen who fails to hold his line resulting in a massive wreck for Webber, and takes the championship contender out of the race. The resulting safety car confusion resulted in 10 drivers getting penalties, 9 with 5 second post-race penalties for lapping too quickly, while Hamilton grabs a drive through penalty for passing the safety car itself. Making the best from the safety car is Kobayashi who stays out in 3rd place for much of the race before making his only stop with 4 to go allowing him to score points and put legitimate passed on both Buemi and Alonso during the closing laps. All alone at the front from start to finish is Vettel who finally avoids all the bad luck and scores an easy victory.
