Bahrain - 12-14 Mar 2010Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, Bahrain Race Distance: 49 laps, 308.405 km Bahrain International Circuit is a wonderful, yet somewhat sterile track designed by Hermann Tilke, the premier F1 course designer. Located in the sands of Bahrain's desert, special sprayed on adhesive along the track's race surface helps to keep the dust down. The track layout is a familiar blend of long straights and complex slow corners. Watch for passing in turns 1 and 4. The 2009 race started with now-defunct Toyota cars on the front row, but ended with Button and Vettel racing to the front on heavy fuel strategies for 1st and 2nd. 3rd place was taken by Trulli. With the new qualifying format that allows drivers to run on light fuel for all three qualifying sessions, but requires them to start the race on the tires they set their fastest lap with, leaves teams juggling their qualifying strategy. However, there were few surprises with the qualifying results. All the new teams are knocked out in Q1, including of course, Chandhok who drove his first ever F1 lap during the session. While all the past champs and big name teams and drivers filter through to Q3. What will be left to see is how tire wear during qualifying affects the race tomorrow. The top 10 on the grid for Bahrain: VET MAS ALO HAM ROS WEB MSC BUT KUB SUT Vettel turns his pole into what looked like an easy victory, only to be foiled by a broken exhaust header during the race which allows the Ferraris and Hamilton's McLaren to pass him. The Ferrari of Alonso drives on to victory, while Massa's first race back after his injury last season ends in a strong 2nd place finish. Hamlton takes 3rd. The Red Bull of Vettel limps home in 4th. Rosberg rounds out the top 5, placing above his vastly more experienced teammate Schumacher.
