Malaysia - 02-04 Apr 2010Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Race Distance: 56 laps, 310.408 km The Malaysian Grand Prix is held at the spectacular Sepang International Circuit. The first designer Hermann Tilke's F1 tracks, this course has set the standard for new era F1 venues. With two massive straightaways leading to the very difficult downhill decreasing radius double apex turn 1, there tends to seem like there's more passing opportunity than there actually is. Many passes on the straights tend to be given back in the T1-T2 complex. In 2009, Button won for the second round in a row as the race was shortened by monsoon rains. Heidfeld took second on tire strategy, and Glock third. Points for this event were doled out at half-value due to the short race length. Rain spoils the qualifying for a both McLaren and Ferrari, with all four cars effectively knocked out in Q1 as they sat in the pits waiting for the weather to clear and saw to their horror as the skies opened up into a downpour. Taking advantage of the championship leading teams foible, Red Bull slots into 1st and 3rd with Webber on the pole. Rosberg grabs 2nd. Young drivers Sutil and Hulkenberg place their cars in 4th and 5th. The top 10 in a wet Malaysia: WEB ROS VET SUT HUL KUB BAR MSC KOB LIU Vettel finally breaks through his string of bad luck by jumping past teammate Webber on the start and leading the race from turn 1 to the checkered flag. Webber tails him the whole way to nab 2nd. Rosberg has an uneventful run to 3rd place. Kubica come home in 4th. The real entertaining race was for positions 5 through 9. Sutil holds off a hard running Hamilton (who started 20th) to take 5th. Massa drives from 21st up to finish 7th. Button and Alonso duke it out for 8th, with Alonso's chances doused by an apparent gearbox issue finally taking out the motor with just a lap left.
