Round 9 Results:
Britain - 06 July 2008
Santander British Grand Prix
Silverstone Circuit, Northhamptonshire, United Kingdom
Event Description:
60 laps, 191.603 mi / 308.355 km

Built on a WWII bomber base, the Silverstone Circuit roughly follows the perimeter road surrounding the bases three runways. The track is fairly non-technical, with long fast straights connected together by corners and chicanes.

In the 2007 race, Lewis Hamilton was able to start from pole, followed by Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso. Felipe Massa was to start fourth, but stalled on grid prompting a second formation lap and a start from pit lane for the Ferrari. During the race, traffic played to Raikkonen's favor allowing him to chase down the McLaren's and pass them on fuel strategy, giving him the win followed by Alonso and Hamilton on the podium. Robert Kubica took fourth, and Massa fought his way through the field to fifth.
Qualifying Summary:
Rain in Q1 catches Honda out leaving them at the back of the field, and surprise quick laps in Q3 put Heikki Kovalainen on pole with Mark Webber at his side in P2. Other surprises: Vettel in 8th, Massa in 9th, and Kubica failing to set a lap in Q3 due to a mechanical issue puts him in 10th.

Race Summary:
Rain once again throws the dice and creates a crazy race. Hamilton makes an incredible start from the second row and catapults himself to second behind his teammate, who he passes shortly thereafter, and never looks back winning the race by over a minute.

Nick Heidfeld takes up the cause for BMW after teammate Kubica beaches the car out of the race, and brings home the second place trophy.

Rubens Barrichello makes the best of the wet by running a set of full-wet tires amidst a field on intermediates to drive his way onto the podium in third.

Kovalainen fights for position with his countryman Raikkonen for much of the race, but ends up fifth behind Kimi's fourth place finish.

Alonso, Trulli, and Nakajima round out the points positions.

With the season half over, there is now a three-way tie for the driver's championship between Hamilton, Raikkonen and Massa, with Kubica just two points out.
