One thing I've noticed, in all 3 years we've run this league the winner, and only the winner, has averaged over 20 points per round. |

It was an incredible finish to a fantastic season. Coming down to the final turn on a wet Brazilian track, Hamilton hangs on to the driver's championship by a single point as Massa goes on to win his home grand prix.
Scoring big in the final race is zpeed with a whopping 31 points pushing him from 5th to a money winning 3rd place. lisaab scores 20 pushing her to the overall win in the fantasy championship. Olivier scores 3rd, and moves up to 5th overall. sperry is 4th in the round and 4th overall. motoring takes 5th in Brazil.
With 14 competitors here's the payout breakdown:
1st place (50% = $140) - lisaab 2nd place (30% = $84) - Tahoe C5 3rd place (20% = $56) - zpeed
Big thanks to everyone for a fun season! For the winners, please email me (sperry@seccs.org) the PayPal address you'd like your prize sent to. For everyone, please join us next season, it's just a few months of silly-season rumors away! |

I think it will be Lisa and Scott 1-2 when the checkered drops |
|
by sperry at 8:48 pm, Oct 19 |
China ends without any drama, Hamilton on top and Massa in second.
The results tighten up the fantasy standings. At the top of the list is now Tahoe C5 by just two points. lisaab drops to second, but left herself both Hamilton and Massa for the final race. sperry remains in third, but loses on point to the leaders. skimonkey30 remains fourth, but MattR drops fifth to seventh as zpeed and Olivier move up.
In just two weeks we'll have our champion! Brazil is next, and our championship is tighter than the F1 driver's championship. It's down to Tahoe C5 and lisaab, with an outside shot from a few others. Good luck! |
|
by MattR at 10:11 pm, Oct 17 |
I think I'm mathematically eliminated. The likelihood of scoring 30+ points over the next two rounds is slim. I think it's down to Lisa and Loren. |
|

Alonso takes two in a row with his impressive drive at Fuji. Raikkonen scores a podium for Ferrari giving them the lead in the manufacturer's championship with both McLarens out of the points.
Scoring 22 points apiece is Tahoe C5 and sperry, tied for the lead this round. Tying for third with 20 points is lisaab and zpeed. And fifth with 18 points this round is motoring.
The fantasy championship tightens up with Tahoe C5 closing the gap to lisaab's lead from 7 to 5 points. sperry passes skimonkey30 for third overall. Nick Koan drops from sixth to eighth. Emily&Marc move up one spot to tenth.
Just two rounds left, China is next Sunday! |

GEEZ LisaB, picking 1 through 5!!! Awesome! |
|
by sperry at 8:28 pm, Sep 28 |
Making the most out of the Safety Car reshuffling of the spectacular Singapore night race were lisaab, Olivier, and motoring all scoring 33 points. zpeed scored 30 points, and tysonK 28.
That's a ton of points this late in the season, and has a big effect on the fantasy championship. Coming from third to 1st overall is lisaab, now 7 points ahead of Tahoe C5 who moves up from third to second. Slipping to third is skimonkey30 who got hurt by scoring only 12 points this round. sperry moves up from sixth to fourth, just 8 points out of a paying position. MattR drops one spot to fifth.
With just 3 rounds remaining in the season, and available drivers running very thin, it's nearly anyone's game with just 35 points separating the top 6.
The next round is at Fuji in Japan in just two weekends. Followed immediately by the race in China. Then it's off to Brazil for the season finale. It's time to put together those end-game picks to eek out as many points as possible for 2008! |

If I did my math right, it looks like I'm going to have to pick SAT or DAV in Brazil. Woohoo. Go me!
I think I'm going to pick Sato. |
|
by sperry at 2:04 pm, Sep 18 |
I don't think I've got it in me this season. I got hit too many times picking the wrong big-name driver. Like having HAM and RAI when they both wrecked out in Canada. |
|
by Tahoe C5 at 7:18 am, Sep 18 |
I agree, lisab and sperry have been very good at staying close while saving top driver picks. I think we're in trouble. |
|
by skimonkey30 at 2:16 pm, Sep 16 |
don't think I can hold my lead with lisaab doing so well |
|
by sperry at 12:34 am, Sep 15 |
Vettel was the surprise winner in Monza, and made for a +10 payday for only 6 participants. Even more surprising was the lack of performance from the normal heavy hitter drivers of Massa, Hamilton and Raikkonen, with the total points scored by all three drivers being only 5.
Nick Koan and Milan make the best of the round, both scoring 28 points. skimonkey30 stays consistently successful, nabbing 3rd this round with 26. lisaab and Emily&Marc both score 25 to round out the top 5 for Monza. lisaab's picks are all the more impressive as she scores her 25 without using either McLarens or either Ferraris.
The top four in the fantasy championship remain the same, though skimonkey30 stretches out his lead over Tahoe C5. Nick Koan supplants sperry by one point for 5th overall with his great round. Emily&Marc make the big jump from 10th to 7th.
In two weeks, F1 takes the trip to Singapore for the first ever night race! It should be a fantastic spectacle through the city streets! |

Jeez Dave... nice picks. 36 what-if points after qualifying. Are you cheating or what!? |
|
by sperry at 10:41 am, Sep 8 |
Seriously... *not* picking Kimi was the real way to make out this round. lol |
|
by Tahoe C5 at 6:57 pm, Sep 7 |
Funny, Kimi's incident didn't really change the standings as most everyone but had him picked. |
|
by sperry at 4:53 pm, Sep 7 |
I think I broke the edge of my couch from the way I was sitting during the last 3 laps. Holy crap what a crazy finish! |
|
by sperry at 4:51 pm, Sep 7 |
Wet weather at Spa puts Kimi into the wall with 2 to go, dashing his probably 4-peat at the track. Hamilton gets his win taken away for short-cutting the bus-stop chicane, handing Massa a victory. Heidfeld finds his decision to grab a set of inter tires for the last lap landing him in second.
Making the best out of the dice roll last 3 laps were Emily&Marc who pulled out 29 points. Nick Koan ends his drought of podium finishes and scores 25 points in second. MattR's 23 points are enough for third, but are also enough to push him past sperry for fourth overall in the fantasy standings. lisaab and tysonK round out the top 5 positions with 16 points each.
The fastest track in F1 is next! Monza in just one week! |

The gorgeous new facility in Valencia produced a beautiful, but boring, race. Massa turned Sunday into a driving clinic on what to do, while those picking Raikkonen and Alonso shared their driver's pain of scoring no points.
Capitalizing on the new circuit, lisaab racked up 30 points by picking the top four and eighth drivers. Olivier had a great round in second with 25 points. skimonkey30 and Nick Koan both pull down 24 points each, and motoring rounds out the top 5 with a score of 20.
lisaab was also the big winner in the overall standings by bounding from 6th to 3rd overall, displacing MattR who falls to 5th, and zpeed who falls to 7th due to a bad round scoring only 3 points. Nick Koan also helps his cause by moving up one spot to 6th overall. skimonkey30's great round puts him back into the overall lead by outscoring Tahoe C5, who drops to second.
We go from the brand new Valencia street circuit, to one of the most historic circuits on the calendar. Round 13 from Spa-Francorchamps, featuring the incredible Eau Rouge corner, is up next! |

DOH! |
|
by sperry at 11:53 pm, Aug 3 |
It was another wild one, with tire failures, fuel fires, and blown engines galore.
The biggest surprise was the dominant drive by Massa and his Ferrari over the McLaren pair. But the even bigger surprise was Massa's dropped motor with just three laps to go. Another surprise was Timo Glock's terrific come back from his big wreck to garner second place.
Making the most of the round was zpeed who brings home 34 points. motoring places second, and does it without losing a Massa pick. Tahoe C5 has another good round with 30 points. skimonkey30 and tysonK round out the top 5 both with 28 points. This round saw a ton of people scoring high point totals as all but 3 people picked Glock.
In the fantasy championship, the top four remain unchanged, but zpeed slots into fifth, pushing lisaab down to sixth.
It's the summer break. Time for the teams to head back to the shop to see what they can come up with to pick up the pace for the second half of the season. In a year where we've seen tremendous development from race to race, this three week hiatus could very well result in another shake up of the dominant teams when we regroup for the first ever European GP on the streets of Valencia! |
|

Another great race. Kinda wish I didn't dump KOV, RAI and TRU at the last minute for HEI, MAS and ROS, but oh well. |
|
by sperry at 4:34 pm, Aug 2 |
Man, looks like everyone but me picked Timo! I wonder how he'll fare in the race... he looked pretty good in qualifying. |

by sperry at 11:07 pm, Jul 20 |
The 3-way tie for the driver's championship was broken up with a Hamilton victory, and with Nelson Piquet's surprise second place finish Lewis nets 4 points over Massa in third.
Emily&Marc score 24 points this round, putting them first for the second round in a row. Olivier makes the best out of his Piquet pick and comes in second with 22 points. Nick Koan takes third with 20 points. sperry and tysonK take fourth and fifth with 19 points each.
Tahoe C5 breaks his points tie with MattR to take the lead overall. skimonkey30 and MattR end up in a points tie for second and third. sperry and lisaab remain in their fourth and fifth place spots. Nick Koan moves up two places into sixth.
Two weeks and we're in Budapest, Hungary! |

Yeah, Lisa made a great pickup getting Rubens on the podium. She actually subbed him in at the last minute when Alonso popped his motor in practice. |
|
by MattR at 6:07 pm, Jul 6 |
Wow! Barrichello had a great drive, it looks like Lisa is the only one who picked up points with Rubens. |
|
by sperry at 3:01 pm, Jul 6 |
It was an unpredictable race in the unpredictable British weather. Those betting on Massa were disappointed to see their guy spend half the race facing the wrong direction, while the few Webber fans elated to see their man start on the front row were doused with a bucket of reality as he spun to the back to the pack on the opening lap.
Making the best out of the wet British tarmac were Emily&Marc who packed away 30 points. zpeed and Motoring both gathered up 27 points though motoring did it without wasting a Massa pick. MattR picks another great round with 26 on the board, and sperry is fifth best at 25 points.
MattR's points this round bump him to a points tie for the lead, but is actually now the new overall leader due to having more winners picked over Tahoe C5. skimonkey30 maintains 3rd overall with yet another round of picking the race winner (8 for 8 so far, if you discount no picks in Canada). sperry and lisaab hold station at fourth and fifth. zpeed gains two spots and moves up to sixth.
The season is half over, and we're well into the European swing of the championship. The next round in just two weeks is the Germain GP in Hockenheim which is a departure from the normal location of the Nurburgring. |

Oh of course, the one week I don't choose TRU.
Hopefully this just means Toyota are coming on in style. |
|
by sperry at 2:38 pm, Jun 22 |
I was all fired up watching TRU hold of KOV, until with like 3 laps to go I realized I had KOV picked instead of TRU. lol |

Massa puts on show in France, beating his injured teammate to the finish for a Ferrari one-two.
Grabbing the round win is Tahoe C5 who picks points earners for all but one of his drivers and takes home 36 points rocketing him into the overall lead. zpeed grabs second with 29 points bumping him from 10th to 8th overall. Olivier and Emily&Marc both score 28 points improving their positions as well. Milan was fifth, and MattR sixth.
The halfway point of the season is next, we're at Silverstone in Britain in just two weeks! |

|
by sperry at 4:19 pm, Jun 8 |
I agree Matt. Incredible race, very entertaining, and I'm really stoked to see Kubica win, not to mention that BMW doesn't seem like "the best of the rest" but is now a true contender.
I just wish I hadn't picked HAM and RAI for this one. |
|
by sperry at 4:18 pm, Jun 8 |
It was another crazy Canadian GP where the Safety Car once again played a major roll in the results. As Kimi Raikkonen and Robert Kubica sat at pit-out waiting for a green light, Lewis Hamilton oblivious to the red light and two stopped cars crashed squarely into the back of Kimi, taking both himself and the Ferrari out of the race, and allowing Kubica to push on for his first Formula 1 victory.
With the crazy mixup in pit lane came some unusual points winners in the fantasy championship. Those picking Hamilton and Raikonnen were hit hard by scoring nothing with the two biggest name drivers, while those playing the midpackers did very well with drivers like Coulthard, Glock, Trulli, Barrichello and Vettel in the points.
Taking top honors in Canada for our championship was Milan, scoring 28 points, but also doing so with both Hamilton and Raikkonen picked. zpeed was second with 25 points, but also losing out on a Hamilton and Raikkonen pick. lisaab takes third with 24 points, Tahoe C5 was fourth with 23 points, with motoring and Nick Koan rounding out the top 6 with 22 points each.
Magny Cours in France is next, just two weeks from today! |
|
by MattR at 2:41 pm, Jun 8 |
Today's Canadian GP was one of the greatest races I've ever seen! What an incredible scenario. Fox sure picked a good one to show to the masses. |
|
by tysonK at 10:42 pm, Jun 7 |
I thought there would be more Sutil picks this week! |
|
by Nick Koan at 9:24 pm, May 26 |
Great race, or greatest race. Poor Adrian Sutil. |
|
by sperry at 5:08 pm, May 26 |
It was a wet and wild Grand Prix of Monaco, and as it tends to do, the rain shook up the status quo catching out those that were betting on more Ferrari domination and rewarding those that took the risk of betting on the mid-pack drivers to place in the points.
The biggest surprises in the points came from Sebastian Vettel's 5th place finish, and Kaz Nakajima's 7th, as well as Kimi Raikkonen's non-points finish due to crashing last in the race.
Taking first for the round in the Fantasy Championship, MattR scores 27 points, moving him up to 2nd overall in the standings. Both skimonkey30 and sperry score 26 points for 2nd and 3rd helping skimonkey30 keep his overall lead and pushing sperry up to 4th overall. Tahoe C5 and Emily&Mark take 4th and 5th with 25 points each.
Canada is the next round of the season, coming June 7th! |

I'm sooooo winning this season! |
|
by Olivier at 3:50 am, May 13 |
I fully understand your point. I hope we'll not have other retirements during the season. Man ! I'll have to try scoring points with Force India... By the way, i have my tickets for the "Grand Prix of Europe" in Valencia... |
|
by sperry at 10:31 pm, May 12 |
Man, it was cool to see Hamilton's 3 stopper actually work quite well, though his comments about McLaren being forced to run 3-stops by Bridgestone will probably have some fallout... what's that all about?
And I gotta say, the track in Turkey is by far the best Tilke course. Turn 8 is incredible! |
|
by sperry at 10:28 pm, May 12 |
Massa makes it three in a row in Turkey, and sends 10 points to all but 6 of the fantasy competitors.
zpeed and tysonk both rake in 31 points this round bumping them both up two spots each in the fantasy standings. Olivier and Nick Koan both gain two positions as well for their third and fifth place round results, and SteveM slots between them this weekend in fourth.
Forgotten lives up to his name and falls from second to sixth overall by forgetting to make picks this round. But as more and more people miss a round here and there, picking no one doesn't rule you out of an overall championship and it does have the advantage of saving drivers for later rounds, which is better than picking a top driver only to have them knocked out of the points such as Heikki Kovalainen this round.
Monaco, the greatest spectacle in motorsports, is coming next! Will Ferrari's advantage in mechanical grip send them strait to the podium? Or will the lack of traction control result in a race of attrition where one mistake could take them (or anyone else for that matter) straight out of the race? The crown jewel of Formula 1 comes in just two weeks! |
|
by sperry at 1:24 pm, May 12 |
I think, as long as we have enough drivers to cover the season, we won't add picks. If for some reason, we lose another team, we'll have to bump the max picks to cover the gap.
Everyone just needs to keep in mind that you're going to end up having to pick the backmarkers and to try to get those picks in when you think they might be able to break into the points! |
|
by Olivier at 1:16 pm, May 12 |
In a way, you are right, changing the rules during a game is not that fair (and the super aguri were not my first choice to be picked !). Nevertheless, i just made a quick calculation. Because of the retirement of the Super Aguri, At the end, each driver will have to be chosen at an average of 7.8 time during the whole season in order to fullfill the picks for every race... This is nearly the limit of 8 ! |
|
by sperry at 10:49 pm, May 10 |
I'm hesitant to change the max number of driver picks. Suddenly adding an extra pick seems unfair for those planning out picks for a complete season.
Since everyone is in the same boat with Super Aguri out, staying with the 8 picks is fair for everyone, even if we're all struggling for picks.
However, if everyone is okay with the change, we can certainly look into it. It's not a difficult change to make to the website's rules. |
|
by Olivier at 1:29 am, May 10 |
Hello, with the bankrupcy of Super aguri, may be it would be fair to adapt a little bit the rule "you can only pick 8 times the same pilot". Without that, we'll virtually have no choice for the picks of the last races. Going from 8 to 9 would already be a step forward. What do you think ? |
|
by sperry at 11:01 am, May 6 |
Well, it looks like Super Aguri is done for the season. After losing their main sponsor, they could not find the funds to continue.
Please keep in mind that SAT and DAV are no longer running when making your picks. |
|
by sperry at 9:38 pm, Apr 27 |
The big news from the Spanish GP was Heikki Kovalainen's heavy crash into the tire barrier. After what appeared to be a left front rim failure rapidly deflated the tire, Kovalainen went off and into the wall at an estimated 180mph. He spent the night in the hospital due to a concussion, but is hopeful to make it to Turkey in two weeks.
In our own competition, Tahoe C5 pulls in 30 points and wins this round. sperry grabs second with 23 points. skimonkey30 and Nick Koan both score 22 points this round, which was enough to help push skimonkey30 past Forgotten into the fantasy championship lead.
It's off to Turkey in two weeks! |
|
by Nick Koan at 8:19 pm, Apr 27 |
Ug, I think Hekki is lucky to be alive. The impact looked much worse (although less dramatic) than Kubica's last year. |

|
by motoring at 8:11 am, Apr 7 |

The race in the Bahrain desert is complete!
zpeed scores big with 34 points, missing calling just 5th and 7th places, which helps him move out of last place and up to 11th.
MattR and Milan both do a tremendous job picking the podium and scoring 29 points, but MattR does it without picking Hamilton who failed to score this round, thus saving him for later in the season.
Tahoe C5 and lisaab round out the top 5 for the fantasy standings this round.
It's a three week break now leading up to the first European race in Barcelona! |

|
by tysonK at 2:09 pm, Mar 24 |
massa, just had to massa it up for me! My only big hitter unles you counted Kubica this round. |
|
by Nick Koan at 9:38 am, Mar 24 |
Oh yeah, I like starting from (almost) the bottom. |
|
by sperry at 3:47 pm, Mar 23 |
Round two is over! It was a bad day for most participants with only 5 people scoring more than 20 points. Many points went out the window when Massa parked himself without any assistance in the gravel, ending his day early.
Furthering his fantasy lead is Forgotten, whose 32 points this round brings his season total to 66, but you have to ask, will a big lead now be enough when the picking get slim in later rounds? Motoring makes a nice score after missing picks in round one with 31 points today. And skimonkey30 scores 30 points putting him only 7 points back in the season standings.
We get a two week breather before Round 3 in Bahrain! |
|
by sperry at 11:37 am, Mar 22 |
The stewards did indeed decide that the McLaren cars were too slow and on the race line, causing Heikki Kovalainen to impede Nick Heidfeld and Lewis Hamilton to impede Fernando Alonso. Both McLaren cars will start 5 spots back from their spots earned on times; 8th and 9th.
Capitalizing on the penalty, Jarno Trulli and Robert Kubica will now start from row two.
The race is in just 12 hours! Good luck everyone! |
|
by sperry at 12:56 am, Mar 22 |
Round two qualifying is complete!
Ferrari is back on top, McLaren on row two. Toyota and BMW look good with both teams getting both their cars in the top 10. Mark Webber sneaks into the top 8 in the Red Bull (that's getting a reputation for being flimsy). And Alonso fights back from a difficult day of qualifying with a 9th place start for Renault. |
|
by sperry at 2:25 pm, Mar 21 |
Good to see motoring and SteveM both got their picks in this round! ;) |
|
by sperry at 1:32 pm, Mar 17 |
Nat, I wouldn't worry about it, since you didn't pick any of the big point earning drivers. You're just getting your weak round out of the way early. Everyone else will be in the same boat later as they run out of drivers to pick. |
|
by sperry at 1:29 pm, Mar 17 |
Round 1 results are updated to reflect Barrichello's DSQ for leaving the pits under a red light.
7th and 8th place both move up a position, and Kimi Raikkonen ends up with the 8th place point. |
|
by MattR at 7:58 pm, Mar 16 |
Actually, you'll end up with 3 points once Barrichello is Dq'd. A field goal is better than nothing. |
|
by at 1:13 pm, Mar 16 |
Only 4 points for me? What a way to start a season. |
|
by MattR at 8:05 am, Mar 16 |
Barrichello has been excluded, RAI gets a point. |
|
by MattR at 12:09 am, Mar 16 |
OK, time to go rest up for some more packing and Nascar tomorrow. |
|
by MattR at 12:07 am, Mar 16 |
Barrichello must be excluded, it is a very clear FIA/F1 policy. After all, it bit Massa last year. In the interest of staying consistent, they ned to DQ him.. Of course it is the FIA..Consistency is not their strong-point. |
|
by sperry at 11:56 pm, Mar 15 |
Oh, and poor Timo... that was one hell of a hit he took for just going wide and through a little lawn! I bet his ass is hurting for the next couple of days. |
|
by sperry at 11:53 pm, Mar 15 |
I swear, every 5 minutes it was another crazy failure taking someone out. Seb scored that point with a blown motor for pete's sake! And who knows if Barichello is going to get away with leaving the pits illegally or not. I may have to update the standings if he's DSQ'd, which puts Kimi in 8th for +1! |
|
by sperry at 11:50 pm, Mar 15 |
Round 1 is history!
Newcomer to this season, Forgotten takes the round with a whopping 33 points followed by Skimonkey and Emily&Marc with 28 and 27 points each.
The big hurt came to those betting on Ferrari, with no Ferraris finishing the race (or even cars with Ferrari motors for that matter) surprisingly there were no points to be found backing the prancing horse today.
With only one week to go before Malaysia, which teams will be able to bounce back from their failures in Melbourne? Make your predictions soon, Round 2 is in just 7 days! |
|
by MattR at 11:49 pm, Mar 15 |
Well that didn't go quite as planned...haha. Noce work on picking up points with Bourdain for some of you. This is going to be a very interesting season. What a crazy race. |

I would totally host the party when I'm back in town... on the 23rd. |
|
by sperry at 11:43 pm, Mar 14 |
Qualifying started at 8pm! But, as last season's results illustrate (The top two people both missed picks one round), missing one round isn't a big deal. Everyone hits those < 5 point rounds, and by not making picks, you're actually helping yourself by not wasting drivers. |

I gotta say, nice picks Matt! Not wasting any big-name picks, and still hitting a big pay off if they finish the way they qualified. |

Is Speed even available in HD on any of the carriers yet? I've still got Charter cable, and they don't have it, and I don't think the sat carriers have it yet? Otherwise, I should cancel the cable people coming today to set up my new house and get a dish! |

Welcome to the 2008 SECCS Fantasy Formula 1 season!
This year, we're not changing much. Just a little freshening of the website here and there, and hopefully some old and new faces to battle out the fantasy season. |
