Round 2 Results:
Malaysia - 22 March 2008
Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix
Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Event Description:
Race Distance: 56 laps, 189.056 mi / 310.408 km

The Malaysian Grand Prix is held at the spectacular Sepang International Circuit. The first of the Hermann Tilke F1 tracks, this course has set the standard for new era F1 venues.

While the course is berated for its uneven surface (like Interlagos, it's built on slowly sinking wetlands) and somewhat 'sterile' layout, it's well liked for its fantastic amenities, including its famous shaded grandstands.

In 2007, the race was won by Fernando Alonso who was driving in just his second race for team McLaren. Lewis Hamilton placed second, giving McLaren a one-two finish. Kimi Raikkonen carried the momentum from his win in Australia to a third place finish. Starting on the pole for the event was Ferrari's Filepe Massa, who was passed by both McLaren cars, his teammate Kimi, and BMW's Nick Heidfeld to finish a disappointing fifth.
Qualifying Summary:
After a disappointing round in Australia just a week ago, it seems either Ferrari has cleaned up their act or has decided to run Q3 (and therefore start the race) on light fuel.

It's a Ferrari front row with Massa on pole and Raikkonen second, followed by the McLaren cars in times, but due to "blocking" Kovalainen and Hamilton will be bumped 5 spots to 8th and 9th on the grid.

Race Summary:
It seems that the 5 spot penalty in qualifying for the McLaren drivers was just too much, preventing them from making a run against Ferrari domination in Malaysia. With McLaren out of the picture for the race win, it looked like an easy one-two finish for Ferrari until Massa threw the car off course pushing hard to close the gap on his teammate in an effort to pass him during the second set of pit stops.

The best of the rest included Toyota and BMW chasing podium spots, with Robert Kubica's BMW taking second place, and Yarno Trulli placing fourth.

Australia's Mark Webber battled it out with Fernando Alonso for 7th and stayed in front for 2 points, with Alonso scoring a single championship point in 8th.
