Round 10 Results:
Germany - 20 July 2008
Grosser Preis Santander von Deutchland
Kockenheimring, Hockenheim, Germany
Event Description:
67 laps, 190.414 mi / 306.458 km

This years German GP is at the Hockenheimring in Hockenheim, Germany. The original 8km circuit built in 1932 was used for motorcycle racing and as a Mercedes and Auto Union test track. It was shortened and sterilized in the 1960's as several drivers lost their lives (the great Jim Clark died at the 1st chicane in 1968 in an F2 car). For the 2002 Grand Prix, the track was redesigned to its current Tilke configuration.

As the German GP event alternates between the Nurburgring and the Hockenheimring, last year's race was at the Nurburgring and was called the "European Grand Prix". The race began in the dry but shortly after the lights went out, the rain fell torrentially. Only the Spyker team (now Force India) pit after the warmup lap for wet tires in anticipation of the rain, which allowed Marcus Winkelhock to eventually lead the race in his first ever GP.

The rain created chaos results in a red flag, and a restart once things started drying out. Alonso found himself at the front of the pack at the checkered flag, followed by Massa and Webber on the podium. Hamilton finished out of the points in 9th, and Raikkonen retired with a mechanical failure after taking pole and running at the front of the pack.
Qualifying Summary:
Lewis Hamilton pulls out another pole, getting Massa who was at the top of the charts ever session leading up to Q3. Kovalainen starts third, while Trulli and Alonso sneak quick laps past Raikkonen.

Race Summary:
Lewis Hamilton takes the race pole to pole, including a terrific drive after a Safety Car period put the field breathing down his back.

Massa threatens a few times for the lead, but is unable to take the race to McLaren. Then he's caught out by Nelson Piquet's great luck finding himself on pit lane just as the Safety Car came out for Timo Glock's big wreck.

Nick Heidfeld puts in a good consistent drive to a fourth place finish. Kimi comes home in sixth, and Kubica and Vettel sneak into the points.
