Awesome season! You guys do a great job with this league. I look forward to the after race summaries each week...very entertaining! Thanks for allowing me into this FF1 league and thanks for all the money! Looking forward to even more races next year! (Max max max, super max max max)

Prizes have been sent out to the PayPal email addresses on file for our winners!
The final payments may look a little weird since I pay back the PayPal fees when possible, but in the case of our Canadian participants, there are some conversion fees that apply.

Thanks everyone for another great Fantasy F1 Season!
Max might have had a lock on the championship earlier than last year's photo finish, but there was still some great racing behind him. Leclerc held on to 2nd in the championship over Perez, and in what might be a surprise, Russel and Sainz bested Hamilton for 4th and 5th overall. Max's domination aside, the return to ground-effect cars seemed to result in some decent racing over the course of 2022.
In the Fantasy F1 Championship, Slater Sn took the lead at Round 15 and held off a challenge from Arun to take the overall win. Meanwhile, Max V, curley, Indocti Discant, and sperry battled it our for the other podium spots. Max V turns a solid season, never falling below 5th, into 2nd place overall. And curley just edges out the others for the final podium spot. Amazingly, just one point separated each position from 2nd down to 5th.
This is Slater Sn's first overall win, after taking 3rd last season. With the large field this season, Slater Sn will take a record 1st price of $260! Congratulations!
Max V takes 2nd overall in their rookie year, using a few big rounds to build up a bank of points, while remaining consistent the rest of the season. Max V will take home $156 for their effort!
A late charge from curley just beats other later chargers Indocti Discant and sperry to take $104 for 3rd place. By my count, this is curley's 6th time on the podium having participated in the league since 2009!
Congrats to all our winners, and near-winners, this season! And a special thank you to Jody Scheckter for handling the scoring and updates from week to week! This league literally wouldn't function without all your help!
As always, the next season is just around the corner. Hope springs eternal that we'll see a battle at the front between multiple manufacturers. Can Hamilton find a route to an 8th championship? Maybe Ferrari will figure out a way to keep pace with RedBull? How will the new driver's on the grid fair? 2023 starts in March, we hope you'll all join us for another FF1 season!

Sorry for the results delay, I didn't get to watch the final race until last night due to having an early "friendsgiving" on Sunday. Overall standings and payouts coming shortly!

Congratulations Slater Sn. Fun fact: this year 18 FF1 participants won or tied for first in a round, and 8 did it twice - no one did it more than twice, and Slater Sn never won a round!
But Slater Sn did make the most Top 10 picks.
Also, that was some late charge by Indocti Discant, falling short of a podium finish by 1 point, which means that the fastest lap point at Abu Dhabi made the difference as third place overall would have been won on tie-breakers.

What a great season it's been, I had a lot of luck early on when the cars were unreliable.
Can't wait for next years racing!

7 RIC picks. 5 points. Go sit in the simulator next year and think about what you've done.

Still, 24 races on next year's calendar should necessitate some changes. Don't forget there's 6 sprints amongst those 24 races, too. Craziness

I've played a few other pools, but so many of them are boring because your options are too restrictive, squeezing any enjoyment out of having to make decisions that matter each week. Either you're stuck due to not being able to make changes, or due to money restrictions or restrictions on combinations, making it almost impossible to make picks.
I like the pick restrictions here because they mean you can't just always pick the top drivers. You have to strategize and pick judiciously. And because sperry sometimes switches up the rules, it makes each year a different challenge.
So yeah, Verstappen could run the table, but you still have to find points from the rest of the field.

Yep, all of the PEI folks know me at least. My Dad (Slater Sn) and I found the pool online after the 'GPUPDATEMANAGER'? pool stopped being available, and then my friends and family joined as they got interested throught the Netflix show. We actually have "PEI Sidebet" of $25 per person that goes to whoever among us finishes highest. Anyway, cool to get an idea of where folks are from! I think my old man has it locked down this year, but who knows how this thing will end? Great pool and appreciate the work that's put into it...makes F1 much more exciting, especially in a year when I have to watch Max dominate...

Due to the short notice of the driver swap at Williams (we hadn't even added DEV into the roster!), we've swapped all ALB picks for DEV. Seems like the most fair option.

I agree with Jody! haha
I am one of those PEI folks El Slatso speaks of!

Given how many picked Albon it seems, to me, best to switch those picks to DeVries.

Albon not racing this weekend 😕. Is it zero points ? Or do we get DeVries points 😅

I'm in Portland, OR these days. I know we have people from Reno, NV, where I used to live, and where pretty much all the original folks were from when we first started this in 2006. I know there are some folks from as far apart as Hawaii and Massachusetts... and I suspect a few from outside N. America as well, or at least we used to have a few people from Europe in years past, but I've forgotten where everyone lives days.

Just curious where the rest of you folks are located in the world? We have 10 members of the pool now from Prince Edward Island in Canada. Great pool - been enjoying it for years! Good luck to everyone in the remaining races!

What a disastrous result. I should have picked Perez, but his past form at Spa was poor, and Hamilton's DNF hurt.😠

maaaaann - we really should up the picks to 10 per driver, or then those weeks that are dropped - those picks are returned.
As for the cutoff - hmm not sure if I'd want to pick right after FP1 - I prefer the cutoff being the start of the sprint race.
by
Jody Scheckter
at 12:08 am, Jul 9
Yeah, sure. The cutoff time can be easily changed to be before Sprint Qualifying. Next year we'll have six of these. But not everyone will have the same picks simply because some have just about used their top picks up already! And come Brazil, the last Sprint race, folks will have even less picks left.

Obviously you can't change that setup at this point this year, but just wondering, if there is enough support in the pool to make picks due before qualifying on Sprint weekends too, is there the ability to change it going forward? I love the pool otherwise, I just find it to doubly lame to even have Sprint Races, and then for everyone to have identical picks for them. Not trying to be over-critical though - really enjoy the pool and I appreciate it's probably a lot of work!

For the purposes of FF1, the sprint race is "qualifying"... so on sprint weekends, there is an advantage of updating your picks between practice 2 (qually for the sprint race) and the sprint race itself.
I'll try to update the FAQ to reflect that... but that's how we've always done it since F1 started with the sprint races.

RobM

According to the FAQ, picks must be made prior to qualifying, which is Friday this week because sprint. Is it prior to qualifying or prior to sprint? The timer to picks seems to indivate prior to sprint.

Good question! I'm sure I wasn't the only one hoping Mercedes were going to challenge more after a better showing in Spain.
After this round I think we'll have a better sense of what's what as the second drop will be applied.

2022 continues to deliver, with another battle at the front. Perez takes his first career pole position, but gets shuffled to 4th when a safety car comes out just after his pit stop, opening the door for a Verstappen vs. Leclerc race for the win. VER gets a little redemption for his Round 1 DNF by beating LEC on track over the last few laps in a hard fought, but clean battle.
Max V matches his namesake this round, taking the fantasy win, and moving up into the overall lead. Van jumps up 9 positions overall with a 2nd place round finish. While Indocti Discant rounds out the podium.
F1 heads next to Melbourne, for the Australian GP. It feels like forever since we've been to the Albert Park circuit, with COVID having cancelled the 2020 and 2021 grand prix. We're back Down Under in just 2 weeks!

The first race with the new 2022 spec cars is on the books! Some battling at the front between Leclerc and Verstappen might indicate that the new aero regulations are working to help make the racing better, but it was ultimately heartbreak for Honda power as three cars, both Red Bulls and one Alpha Tauri, failed to finish with appeared to be power unit issues.
Taking the Round 1 win is Steevo, followed closely by Slater Sn, Croken11, and RyanS. Four participants however played the strategy of dropping round 1, perhaps to gain an understanding of the new field? Or maybe they simply forgot to make picks... Only time will tell if the strategy works out as driver pick counts run out late in this long season! With potentially 138 picks needed for the season (if Russia is replaced and we have 23 rounds), and just 160 possible driver picks total, there will be a lot of strategy in picking mid-pack and back-field drivers, while saving the top drivers for podium points!
Round 2 is next without a break, off to Saudi Arabia this weekend!

Welcome to the 2022 Fantasy F1 Season!
The new technical regulations are in place, and we're about to see the first ground effect F1 cars since the 1980's! How will the new cars play into the bitter Max/Lewis rivalry that carries over from the controversy of Max's Championship?
We start in Bahrain in just a week's time!
Welcome, and good luck!
