![]() ![]() Gran Premio d'Italia Autodromo Nazionale Monza, Monza, Italy Race Distance: 53 laps, 306.720 km As one of the three circuits on the schedule that were also on the schedule back in 1950's first F1 championship, Monza is one of the quintessential F1 tracks. Built in 1922 it featured an incredible oval and a high-speed road course. Today the oval is unused, and the road course has been drastically slowed with chicanes for safety, but remains the fastest track on the Formula 1 schedule. Long straights result in special low-drag bodywork for the race, giving the cars the top speed needed for low lap times, but also means low grip in the corners that test the drivers' skill. Hamilton dominated the 2012 race at Monza. Perez grabs a podium spot in 2nd, while Alonso and Massa charge from deep in the field for 3rd and 4th to the delight of the Italian fans. Red Bull takes another pole, locking out the front row with Vettel ahead of Webber. Hulkenberg surprises by grabbing 3rd place in front of the Ferraris of Massa and Alonso. The big shock was Raikkonen and Hamilton failing to make Q3, who will start 11th and 12th respectively. The top 10 in Italy: VET WEB HUL MAS ALO ROS RIC PER BUT VER Vettel dominates another race, running away from the pack at the start. Alonso puts in a great drive in front of the Ferrari home fans, going from 5th to 2nd, but never really threatening for the win. Webber loses a spot, finishing in 3rd, while Massa hold 4th to the end of the race. Hulkenberg turns his best start of the season into a 5th place finish.
