Most of the year, this course is a park road, but for the GP weekend, it's converted into a dynamic 3.3 mile circuit amid the Australian fall weather. Button won the 2012 season opener for McLaren, while hometown favorite Webber scored his highest place in his home race, 4th. Rain hampers qualifying, forcing the postponement of Q2 and Q3 until Sunday morning. Following on to the qualifying success of years past, Red Bull locks out the front row with Vettel on pole ahead of teammate Webber. With the a surprising pace in the Mercedes, Hamilton qualifies 3rd for his first race for the Sliver Arrow. Ferrari rounds out the top 5 with Massa upsetting Alonso. The top 10 in Australia: VET WEB HAM MAS ALO ROS RAI GRO DIR BUT In an unusually clean yet hard fought race, it's Raikkonen in the Lotus that makes a 2-stop strategy the fastest way to the finish line, earning him the 1st victory of 2013. Alonso, after losing some early battles with Vettel and teammate Massa, was able to find his way to 2nd on the podium by the end. Vettel rounds out 3rd place, making it 3 champions on the podium. Massa and Hamilton finish out the top 5.
