![]() ![]() UBS Chinese Grand Prix Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, China Race Distance: 56 laps, 305.066 km The Shanghai International Circuit is another Hermann Tilke track featuring a pair of long straights with passing opportunities at their ends. Like the Malaysian circuit, the track features an interesting turn 1-2-3-4 complex where the drivers must navigate a long, sharply decreasing right turn, followed by a hard left hand hairpin. Last year Rosberg used his new double-DRS to take his first ever F1 victory. Behind him in a hard fought battle with Button taking 2nd on good tire strategy, and Hamilton in 3rd for the 3rd race in a row. The crazy tire issues bleed into qualifying forcing teams to delay their laps in an effort to save tread for the race. Hamilton scores his first pole of the season as Vettel chooses to skip Q3 in order to start on the harder tires in the race. Raikkonen will start second, ahead of Alonso and Rosberg on row 2. Massa rounds out the top 5, being out qualified by his teammate for the first time in 4 races. Webber fails to make Q3 by running out of fuel in Q2 and will start from pit lane from failing to provide a fuel sample to the FIA. The top 10 qualifiers in China: HAM RAI ALO ROS MAS GRO RIC BUT VET HUL Vettel and Hulkenberg start on the harder tires behind 4 rows of cars on the softer tires in a ballsy strategic attempt. But it's not enough as Alonso's Ferrari shows to be unmatched. Alonso takes the win over Raikkonen. Hamilton drops from pole to 3rd to round out the podium, fighting off a hard-charging Vettel who saved his soft tires for the last stint. Button places 5th, better than expected considering the McLaren's poor pace. Massa finishes in 6th despite looking on-pace with Alonso early in the race.
