The track is fairly non-technical, with long fast straights connected together by corners and chicanes. New in 2010, the "Arena Complex" (originally designed for MotoGP) will be used again for the F1 race. In 2012, Webber won with a pass over Alonso at the end to become the 1st 2-race winner of the season. Alonso placed 2nd ahead of Vettel. Red Bull and Mercedes continue their season-long qualifying battle as hometown-hero Hamilton takes the poll over teammate Rosberg ahead of a Red Bull row two of Vettel and Webber. Di Resta puts in his best qualifying performance of the season in 5th, but is disqualified from qualifying for turning up under-weight and will start at the back of the grid. The top 10 in Britain: HAM ROS VET WEB DIR* RIC SUT GRO RAI ALO BUT * disqualified for under-weight Leaving the grid, it was a split Red Bull performance with Vettel jumping into 2nd behind Hamilton but ahead of Rosberg, while Webber drops over 10 spots to the mid-pack with another terrible start. But the story of the race became tires, as 4 left-rear Pirellis fail over the course of the race, ruining the days of Hamilton, Massa, and Perez (twice). But the biggest DNF was felt by Vettel who lost his gearbox from the lead. Eventually it was Rosberg that held on to the victory, with Webber making an incredible come-back drive to 2nd over Alonso who takes the last podium position.
