Today the track is known for its dry and dusty surface that has been raced in the wet only one time (in 2006 the wet Hungaroring gave Jensen Button his maiden victory). The slippy surface here makes one extra qualifying lap all that more important as the track get faster during each session's "rubbering-in". In 2012, Hamilton's decision to go with a dry setup on the car despite a 100% chance of rain on race day allowed him to cruise to a victory. Raikkonen bested his teammate Grosjean as they finished 2nd and 3rd. Mercedes and Red Bull are at it again, this time with Hamilton taking the pole. Vettel will start along side him on the front row. Grosjean out qualifies his teammate, slotting into 3rd on the grid over Raikkonen's 6th. Rosberg and Alonso round out the top 5. Winning from pole, Hamilton has his first victory for his new team. Raikkonen comes from 6th to take 2nd place, fighting off Vettel in the closing stages of the race who finishes 3rd. Webber and Alonso round out the top 5 as Grosjean's great pace is hampered by penalties.
