Great Britain 08-10 Jul 2011Santander British Grand Prix Silverstone Circuit, Northhamptonshire, United Kingdom Race Distance: 52 laps, 306.747 km Built on a WWII bomber base, the Silverstone circuit roughly follows the perimeter road surrounding the bases three runways. The track is fairly non-technical, with long fast straights connected together by corners and chicanes. New in 2010, the "Arena Complex" (originally designed for MotoGP) will be used again for the F1 race. At the 2010 event, Webber jumped into the lead from 2nd on the grid and held it to the checkered flag. Hamilton got 2nd after contact with Vettel sent the RedBull to the pits. Rosberg grabbed 3rd. Rain hampers qualifying and shortens Q3 setting the top 10 based on early laps from the session. But the rain, and the row over mid-season rules changes, can't stop Red Bull from locking out yet another front row. This time Webber grabs pole position, with teammate Vettel in 2nd. Ferrari continues to catch up with Red Bull, and locks out row two with Alonso and Massa in 3rd and 4th. Button rounds out the top 5. The top 10 qualifiers in Britain: WEB VET ALO MAS BUT DIR MAL KOB ROS HAM The race began under damp conditions which may have contributed to a bad start by Webber who lost the lead off the line to teammate Vettel. From there it appeared to be another Vettel demonstration. However a poor pitstop by Vettel's crew allowed the flying Ferrari of Alonso to move into the lead after the pit stop cycle. Vettel finishes 2nd when team orders prevent Webber from passing on the last lap. Hamilton nabs 4th after starting in 10th, nearly running out of fuel as he fights off a 5th place Massa by just 0.024 seconds.
