Malaysia 08-10 Apr 2011Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Race Distance: 56 laps, 310.408 km The Malaysian Grand Prix is held at the spectacular Sepang International Circuit. The first of designer Hermann Tilke's F1 tracks, this course has set the standard for new era F1 venues. With two massive straightaways leading to the very difficult downhill decreasing radius double apex turn 1, there tends to seem like there's more passing opportunity than there actually is. Many passes on the straights tend to be given back in the T1-T2 complex. In 2010, Vettel finally broke his streak of mechanical issues and wins from 2nd on the grid over teammate Webber, beginning to show signs of the season to come. Webber took 2nd, Rosberg 3rd. Vettel continues his domination of qualifying, but this time takes pole by only a tenth of a second over Hamilton. Red Bull teammate Webber will start 3rd, while Button is 4th behind his McLaren cohort. Alonso will start 5th, making the top 5 on the grid the same as the last round in Australia. The top 10 qualifiers in Malaysia: VET HAM WEB BUT ALO HEI MAS PET ROS KOB Vettel puts on a driving clinic winning 2 out of 2 races from pole this season. However his drive in Malaysia isn't perfect as he fights through a KERS failure for the win. Teammate Webber is also hampered when his KERS too suffered a failure at the start dropping him back on lap 1. Webber finishes 4th. Button's smooth tire-friendly style lands him in 2nd, while Lotus Renault reach the podium again in 3rd, but this time it's Heidfeld taking the spot. Petrov fails to finish in spectacular fashion as an off over a drainage ditch sends him airborne. Massa rounds out the top 5, just edging out teammate Alonso who loses a wing late in the race in contact with Hamilton.
