Korea 12-14 Oct 2011Korean Grand Prix Korean International Circuit, Yeongam, South Korea Race Distance: 55 laps, 309.155 km The only new circuit on the calendar for 2010, the Korea International Circuit has been in the works since 2006. Yet another Tilke designed course, KIC follows the latest design themes of blending the circuit into a waterfront along with several long straights and tight corners to challenge the car designers and drivers alike. During 2010's inaugural race, rain resulted in a long red-flag period. After the restart, Vettel and Webber appeared to be on to another good finish, but a shunt by Webber and an engine failure for Vettel gave Alonso the win, Hamilton 2nd, and Massa 3rd, thus tightening the driver's championship even further. McLaren finally breaks through and ends the streak of 15 straight poles set by Red Bull. Hamilton will start 1st after setting a flying lap ahead of Vettel's 2nd place time. Button will start 3rd, followed by Webber, meaning the McLarens will start nose to tail on the clean line with the Red Bulls nose to tail on the dirty side of the grid. Massa and Alonso lock out row 3, with Massa edging out Alonso for just the 2nd time this season. The top 10 in Korea: HAM VET BUT WEB MAS ALO ROS PET DIR SUT Rain threatened early in the race, but failed to affect the event. Vettel makes a lap 1 pass on Hamilton, and never looks back, going on to score his 10th win of the season. Hamilton keeps pace with Vettel for a while, but eventually has to work hard to protect 2nd place, fighting off several legitimate challenges from Webber, who in turn is hounded by Button, who in turn is harried by Alonso. Unlike last season's race, only 3 cars retire: Maldonado with an engine failure, and Petrov and Schumacher who were in an incident.
