My strategy through the end of the year was to save Mclaren picks, as they improved, I was banking on him for the finale. Unreal...That, and the fact that 4 of my picks in Brazil crashed together in the opening laps... |

Matt, when Lisa and I watched qualifying and saw how good Hamilton was, we both figured you had the season locked up. That's some crappy luck man.
And curley, you got me by picking Kobayashi. Nice work. |

It was a tight finish to this year's fantasy championship season!
By scoring 16 points in the final round, lisaab fends off some threatening competition from MattR who suffers a heart-breaker when his Hamilton pick went from a season winning call to only 5 points on the round when the McLaren failed to finish. MattR's terrible luck allows lisaab holds on to win her second consecutive FF1 championship.
Also scoring 16 points was curley due to the excellent decision to select newbie Toyota driver Kobayashi, giving him a bump from 3rd overall into 2nd. Winning the final round with 24 points, sperry is able to move up from 4th to 3rd and take the final paying spot.
Hurt by Hamilton's retirement, MattR drops two spots to 4th overall. zpeed gains two spots in the last round to finish 5th. skimonkey and Marc&Em both have good rounds allowing them to move up after the final round.
Based on the finishing results and number of competitors, here's the championship payout:
1st place, 50% payout: lisaab $140 2nd place, 30% payout: curley $84 3rd place, 20% payout: sperry $56
Congratulations to the winners, and a big thanks to everyone for an exciting season! It was close at the top with only 25 points covering the top 5 competitors.
Keep an eye on the crazy off-season F1 happenings, as next season looks to be another mixed bag of rules changes, driver changes, new teams, and new tracks. We hope everyone returns for next year's Fantasy F1 league! |

Button has won the Driver's Championship, along with his Brawn team's Manufacturer's Championship.
With 28 points, curley wins the round and moves up a spot into 3rd overall. zpeed pulls in 26 points for second. sperry takes 25 points and moves up two spots overall. dayna_k8 rounds out the top five this round with 24 points.
Coming down to the last round, lisaab has the overall lead over MattR by 6.5 points. curley has staged a come-from behind run up the standings after missing round one to land in third, only 11 points from the lead. sperry, nKoan, motoring, and zpeed are all mathematically alive to take the championship.
The season finale is in two weeks at the totally new Abu Dhabi Yaz Marina circuit. With a brand new track the race could be a huge wildcard for the fantasy championship. The F1 champ may have been determined, but all three fantasy podium spots are still up for grabs to the majority of the participants. Good luck to all in the final round! |

The return to Suzuka saw all sorts of wrecks, penalties, and eventually a solid race that keeps three drivers still eligible for the championship.
Tahoe C5 takes the round win with 27 points. MattR and zpeed tie for second just one point back at 26 points each. lisaab keeps her fantasy lead by scoring 23 in 4th. And Marc&Em score 22 points for fifth.
In the overall championship, MattR is able to move up to second this round pushing motoring down a spot to third. curley jumps up two positions to fourth overall, dropping both nKoan and sperry a position each.
In two weeks, the F1 circus travels to spring-time Sao Paulo in Brazil. Traditionally, this would be the final round of the championship, but the addition of Abu Dhabi at the end of the season makes this year's Brazilian GP the penultimate round of 2009. |

The night race in Singapore really tightens up the fantasy standings. Now only 14 points cover the top 6 participants!
lisaab brings home one point shy of a perfect round, scoring 38 points. zpeed takes second for the round with 34 points. motoring and Marc&Em tie for 3rd with 30 points. curley rounds out the top five with 28 points.
With her near perfect round, lisaab leaps into the overall lead. motoring also jumps up, three positions to second overall, tied in points with MattR who slides to third. A bad round drops nKoan three spots to fifth.
There's no break between the night in Singapore and the return to the magnificent circuit in Japan. A driver's favorite, Suzuka, is up this weekend! |

It was a fun one in Monza with all the low aero cars sliding around. Brawn returns to their winning ways, but Ferrari and Force India stay competitive.
zpeed is the big winner this round with 36 points, a massive 10 points more than lisaab in 2nd. curley takes 3rd with 20 points, while motoring and skimonkey round out the top five with 17 each.
zpeed's big win moves him up 3 spots in the championship to 10th overall. lisaab also moves up 2 positions to 3rd place, pushing motoring and sperry both down a spot each.
Two weeks from now is the street circuit race in Singapore. Get ready for F1 under the lights! |

The race in Spa was a fun one due to the unusual drivers at the top of the qualifying charts, and the subsequent retirement of many of the big name drivers.
Taking best advantage of the crazy final results was tysonK who grabs 30 points, moving him up one spot to 10th overall. Taking second for the round with 29 points, and jumping up 2 places to 3rd overall is sperry. lisaab and Tahoe C5 share 3rd this round with 26 points each. nKoan and zpeed tie for 5th with 20 points.
From one storied circuit to another. In two weeks, the F1 teams tackle the fastest track in F1 this season: Monza, at the Italian GP. |

With the exception of Ruben's brilliant drive, the race itself wasn't super interesting, but the results really make the championship interesting with Button and Webber both far down the results. I wonder if it's going to be another 1 point championship at the last race again. |

A hot and humid European GP in Valencia is over with the "other" Brawn, Barrichello, on top. McLaren places well in second and fourth, but no doubt Hamilton and Kovalainen feel shorted having started 1st and 2nd. Vettel and Webber both end with their RedBull cars out of the points.
Making the most of the round is skimonkey hauling in 33 points. lisaab and Gavin tie for second with 32 points. curley and sperry round out the top five with 30 and 28 points each.
The fantasy championship stays relatively unchanged with no positions made or lost for the top 5.
Next weekend is the historic and magnificent Spa-Francorchamps race in Belgium! Set your DVRs and get your picks in ASAP! |

I just added one more feature I've been dying to add: standings history. Now I can display how your overall position has changed from round to round! |

Added MSC to the driver's roster (crazy!), added pictures for ALG, and did some minor visual updates to the way tables are displayed, plus added a way to distinguish unavailable drivers. |

Man I thought McLaren's practice form was a fluke and they'd be overrun in the actual race. Guess I was wrong. I was so close to changing my Ferrari picks to McLaren pics... C'est la vie. |

Crazy race... I was actually kinda bummed ALO got screwed by his pit crew even though I'm not much of an ALO fan.
And poor Massa. I hope he drives an F1 car again... who knows how much long term damage may have occurred. :( |

An emotional rollercoast in Budapest is wrapped up with last year's championship contenders on opposite ends of the spectrum... Hamilton at the top of the podium, and Massa in the hospital.
Tying for the round win is curley and Marc&Em who both score 34 points. lisaab takes 3rd with 32 points. MattR and motoring round out the top five with 31 and 30 points respectively.
Round 10 results have shaken up the fantasy championship. Leaping back into first is MattR who scores 11 points over former leader nKoan. motoring also jump up two places from fifth to third. curley takes fourth place, moving up from seventh, and sperry moves up one to collect the fifth overall spot. Making the biggest leap up the charts is Marc&Em who jumps from 11th to sixth overall.
F1 takes a relatively long summer break before the next race in Valencia, Spain a month from now. Here's to a speedy recovery for Massa. |

The race at the Nurburgring is over and Gavin takes his first fantasy round win with 36 points. sperry takes second with 32 points, and curley third with 31.
MattR, dayna_k8, and motoring round out the top five with 29, 27, 27 points respectively.
In the fantasy championship, the top 6 participants hold station, though MattR makes up lots of ground on Nick Koan for the lead, now only 4.5 points back.
Round 10 in Budapest, Hungary is next in just two weeks! Has the tide changed for Brawn? Can RedBull take the reins as the dominant team and push Vettel or Webber to the top of the championship standings? Or will the massive experience and money of Ferrari and McLaren finally put them in the driver's seat for the second half of the season? |
|
by sperry at 8:05 pm, Jun 21 |
It's another very tight result with lots of people making conservative picks again this round.
nKoan shares the top spot this round with zpeed, extending his overall lead in the fantasy championship with 35 points. dayna_k8, Tahoe C5, and curley share 3rd this round with 34 points each.
The overall top five remains unchanged with the exception of dayna_k8 moving up one spot over motoring, from fifth to fourth.
We've got a little bit of a break up next. It's three weeks until the F1 circus invades the Green Hell of the Nurburgring! |

skimonkey hits a homerun in Turkey with 36 points. tysonK takes second with a solid 34 points, motoring, MattR, and zpeed round out the top five with 33, 32, and 29 points respectively.
nKoan's 19 points are enough for him to retain the fantasy lead by just 2.5 points over MattR who moves up to 2nd from 4th. skimonkey also moves up, into 3rd place vacated by Tahoe C5 who forgets to submit pics for the round. motoring is up to 4th overall, and dayna_k8 drops down to 5th.
We're off to frequently rainy Silverstone in two weeks for the British Grand Prix! |

Another Monaco is complete, and it's a fairy-tale race for Button who wins from pole, with his teammate Barrichello in second. Ferrari's new pace puts them in third and fourth, and everyone else is left wondering how they're going to play catch-up.
Having a fairy-tale fantasy race of her own, dayna_k8 scores a terrific round with 36. curley places second with 34 points, skimonkey is in third with 33 points. Gavin and curley round out the top five both with 32 points.
dayna_k8's great round bumps her from 4th over all to 2nd, 8.5 points behind nKoan who retains the lead. Tahoe C5 also jumps up to 3rd overall, MattR slides down one spot to 4th, and sperry drops from 2nd to 5th with a poor round.
In two weeks, we're off to Turkey, a track dominated by Massa who's won the last three races there. Will Ferrari's new found pace be enough to loosen Brawn's grip on the championship and allow Massa to four-peat? Or will Brawn go on to win 6 of the first 7 rounds? |
|
by MattR at 8:38 pm, May 10 |
I'm pretty happy with my 26 points without using Button...I should have known they'd still be strong. Ross Brawn, Jenson and Rubens are the real deal. |

Spain is over, and the fantasy results are very close with all the participants picking similarly conservative lineups.
sperry wins this round with 35 points. Marc&Em, lisaab, curley and zpeed round out the top five all tied for second with 34 points.
sperry's points moves him up to second overall, with nKoan keeping his lead by 6 points. MattR is in third overall, chased closely by dayna_k8 and motoring.
The premier race of F1 is next. The fantastic and historical Monaco GP is on Memorial Day weekend, in just two weeks! |

I'm amazed only Kaz DNF'd! You'd think that with all the heat, you'd have seen a few engine/KERS/gearbox/brake failures. Those new cars are surprisingly stout! |

It's been two rounds since the last fantasy summary!
The wet Round 3 in China is dominated by motoring who rakes in 35 points and the fantasy championship lead. nKoan, Tahoe C5, tysonk, and dayna_k8 round out the top five by all scoring 31 points. With those points nKoan climbs to 2nd overall. Tahoe C5 and sperry both have 72.5 points, with Tahoe C5 getting the 3rd position based on picking more winners.
Round 4 was the complete opposite of China, with 100F temps and no humidity. MattR takes top points in the desert with 35. Gavin has a great round in 2nd with 32. dayna_k8 scores her second 31 point round in a row, with curley also scoring 31. skimonkey rounds out the top 5 with 29 points.
nKoan's 28 points is enough to give him the fantasy lead after 4 rounds, while MattR's great finish allows him to leap from 6th back to 2nd overall. Tahoe C5 keeps his spot in 3rd.
We're *finally* back to Europe after 4 fly-away races to start the season. It's the Grand Prix of Spain from Barcelona in just two weeks! |

Matt's got a valid point regarding what the partial points mean to our championship. Check out his comments and my response on the main forums.
And Gavin, I've got no way to individually add points per person. lol |

The rule has always been "you share the points that the drivers score". If the FIA deems a partial race is only worth partial points, then we'll do the same. |

Wet weather shortens the Malaysian GP, but the weather can't stop Brawn racer Button from taking his second win in a row.
Because the rain prevented more than 75% of the laps from being completed, this round will score half the normal points per position. The FF1 website has been upgraded to account for this situation.
sperry wins this round with the unusual total of 13.5 points. MattR is second, with 12 points. nKoan, lisaab, and Marc&Em tie for third in Malaysia each with 11.5 points.
sperry breaks out of the tie for the lead with MattR in the fantasy championship, with 49.5 points. MattR inherits second place alone, at 48 points. nKoan is in third, at 43.5.
The teams are off to China for an early visit to the track this season. The race in Shanghai is in just two weeks! |

FIA further investigated the Hamilton/Trulli incident and found that McLaren indeed told Hamilton to let Trulli pass him behind the safety car. Trulli's 25 second penalty was removed and Hamilton was excluded from the results for originally providing "misleading evidence."
Results updated. |

Say what you will about the FIA mucking around with the rule book in the off season, the result was an incredibly interesting race created by all the various disparities between the cars.
Different diffusers, hard vs. soft tires, KERS vs. non-KERS, new Saftey Car rules, and the big shakeup putting the normal big-name teams at the back of the field ended in a race with lots of contact, lots of passing, and lots of new names at the top of the list when it was all over.
Jensen Button's win is the 200th F1 victory by a Briton, and the late Vettel/Kubica wreck put Barrichello into second for a Brawn GP 1-2.
Making the best out of the crazy results, MattR and sperry both score 33 points with their identical picks. Followed by six participants each scoring 30 points. Apparently, many folks this year were paying attention to the off season news!
Can the Brawn magic take their team to the podium again next week, or will the heavy hitters of McLaren and Ferrari be able to catch up? Malaysia is next weekend!
UPDATE: Trulli gets a 25 second penalty for passing under the Safety Car and is classified 12th after the race. Results have been updated! |

Toyota was relagated for a rear wing flex-test issue. No Biggie, they did fine. Brawn is simply amazing, I am so impressed by their performance. ROund 2 is where we see if this is a fluke or if indeed they're a contender. What great racing. |

Welcome to the 2009 Fantasy F1 Season!
FF1 is looking to be a challenge this season with all the changes for '09. New active aero rules, slicks are back, KERS gives the driver's a push to pass power boost, all seem to indicate we'll have a season with lots of passing!
New for 2009, we've expanded the number of pics per season for a particular driver from 8 to 10. So you can now pick your favorite drivers two more times per season! With more big-name drivers available, we should see some higher point totals at the end of the season, and hopefully less rounds where folks are forced to pick only drivers from the second half of the grid.
Head on over the the FAQ/Rules page to register! Good luck to everyone in 2009! |

In regards to the new F1 driver's championship scoring (the driver with the most wins is the champion this season, points are the tie breaker) our Fantasy scoring will not be changing. We will continue to use the 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 points schedule, and our champion will still be based upon highest points first then on most 1sts, 2nds, 3rds, etc.

I'll be really impressed if Ross Brawn can pull off a competitive season. Surprisingly their last minute testing schedule seems to show the car has some pace... but with only a week of testing before having to ship off to Australia, who knows where their reliability will be. |
