55 laps, 305.470 km (189.805 mi)
The last round of 2009 will be the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix held at the brand new Yaz Marina circuit.
The new course is another Hermann Tilke designed track, with 21 corners running around the man-made Yas Island. Part of the course is rumored to run through the inside of a hotel and part of the pit lane exit is through a tunnel that runs under the track itself.
With no previous grand prix at this track, and no testing at this track, the race is a wildcard event to finish the season. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
Hamilton shows that the McLaren is likely the fastest car in F1 after a season of development by grabbing pole position a .6 seconds over the second fastest car.
Vettel and Webber put their Red Bulls in 2nd and 3rd position. While Barrichello and Button take the 4th and 5th spots on the grid.

| Race Summary: |
Hamilton started the race from pole with what looked like would be a run-away win. But as Vettel began to real Hamilton in, a rear brake failure parked the McLaren early, opening the door for a Red Bull one-two win.
Button threatened Webber for second during the last two laps, but the new champ was only able to hang on to third.
A bit of a surprise in 6th and 7th place was the Toyota team, lead by replacement driver Kobayashi. |
