53 laps, 190.58 mi / 306.720 km
As one of the three circuits on the schedule that were also on the schedule back in 1950's first F1 championship, Monza is one of the quintessential F1 tracks. Built in 1922 it featured an incredible oval and a high-speed road course. Today the oval is unused, and the road course has been drastically slowed with chicanes for safety, but remains the fastest track on the Formula 1 schedule. KERS equipped cars expect to have an advantage as the long straights make the weight of the KERS system less of a handicap.
Last season's race was held under torrential rain conditions. Vettel became the youngest ever winner in F1 by taking the victory from pole for Red Bull. Kovalainen was second, with Kubica on the last podium step. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
Force India keeps up their amazing sure of pace during qualifying with Sutil taking provisional pole right until Hamilton's final lap supplanted him. Raikkonen takes third, but new Ferrari driver and local Italian Fisichella is only able to qualify a disappointing 14th.

KERS was expected to make the difference down Monza's long straights, but it was Brawn's one stop fuel strategy that put them in the top two spots at the end of the race. Button never led his teammate Barrichello who goes on to win his second race of the season, and 8th win for the team.
Raikkonen takes third on the day, inheriting the spot from Hamilton who has a last lap shunt in the Lesmos corners. Sutil takes 4th, his career best finish, and Alonso rounds out the top five coming from 8th on the grid. |
