Round 6 Details: |
| Monaco - 24 May 2009 Grand Prix de Monaco
Circuit de Monaco Monte Carlo, Monaco |
Event Description: |
78 laps, 162.24 mi / 260.52 km
The Monaco Grand Prix has been around since 1929 and has evolved into not just the most spectacular race of the F1 calendar, but perhaps the most amazing race in all of motorsports.
The course has remained nearly unchanged since the inception of the event resulting in a narrow, bumpy course where the cars race wheel to wheel mere inches away from the Armco walls. The course is so tight, the teams are forces to use one-off suspension designs to get around the tightest hairpin of the season.
Last season, rain defined the race. No team finished the race without a weather related incident. Even winner Hamilton found himself in the pits for a tire puncture earlier in the race. Kubica took second. Massa took third. Raikkonen was notably missing from the points when, in an apparent lapse of concentration, he crashed into Sutil taking the Force India driver out of a fantastic 4th place position. |
Qualifying Summary: |
Last year's race winner Hamilton puts it into the wall in Q1 requiring a gearbox change penalty in addition to being unable to run any fast laps and will start from the back of the grid.
Brawn stays on top with another Button pole, and Barrichello in 3rd. Ferrari build on their improvements in Spain, and grab 2nd (Raikkonen) and 5th (Massa) on the grid.

Race Summary: |
No rain and no safety cars means this year's Monaco GP runs with the traditional lack of passing.
Grabbing second from Raikkonen at the start, Barrichello is able to slot in behind his teammate Button as they go on to finish one-two yet again. Brawn GP is really putting together a dominating season, showing that their cars have not only a terrific aero advantage, but that their mechanical grip is also top notch on the low speed streets of the principality.
Ferrari jumps to the top of the list for "the best of the rest" with a Raikkonnen-Massa three-four finish. With Massa's recent domination in Turkey, Ferrari may be back at the top of their game next race.
McLaren's bad season continues with Hamilton unable to make points after starting last, and Kovalainen crashing out. BMW and Toyota both have similar days and finish surprisingly out of the points. |
