Round 10 Details:

Hungary - 26 Jul 2009
ING Magyar Nagydij
Hungaroring, Budapest, Hungary
Event Description:
70 laps, 190.55 mi / 306.66 km

Built in 1986, the Hungaroring located near Budapest, Hungary was the home of many great battles during the turbo era of Formula 1. Today the track is known for its dry and dusty surface that has been raced in the wet only one time (in 2006 the wet Hungaroring gave Jensen Button his maiden victory). The slippy surface here makes one extra qualifying lap all that more important as the track get faster during each session's "rubbering-in".

The 2008 race was dominated by Massa who bolted to the lead right from the start, only to DNF with a failed motor with just three laps to go. Kovalainen was able to capitalize and take his first race win. Glock and Raikkonen rounded out the podium.
Qualifying Summary:
Qualifying goes horribly wrong for Massa who suffers a fractured skull and concussion after being hit in the head by a damper spring off Barrichello's Brawn GP car, ending with Massa's Ferrari speared into a tire wall.

Qualifying was further tainted by a failure to the timing and scoring loop, resulting in the entire field milling around Parc Ferme trading times amongst themselves while the FIA sorted out the qualifying results:

Race Summary:
Usually for races at the Hungaroring, the pole sitter has the huge race advantage, but Alonso's pit crew let the 2 time champ down when they failed to tighten the cowl on his right front tire. Not only did the tire fall off ending Alonso's race from the lead, it also got him potentially disqualified for the next round.

Taking advantage of KERS at the start, and then Alonso's bad luck, Hamilton and his much improved McLaren slotted into the race win. Raikkonen placed second, dedicating the result to teammate Massa in the hospital. Webber rounded out the podium as the top RedBull car, helping his championship chances.

Both Brawn cars placed out of the points, Vettel, Alonso, and Sutil all lost quick cars to attrition. Youngest ever F1 driver Alguersuari completed the race, one lap off the leaders.
