44 laps, 191.492 mi / 308.176 km
The circuit at Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most storied courses in all of F1. The original 9.3 mile course created out of the public roads between Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot in 1924 has been reduced to a much safer 4.3 mile course. While the infamous Masta Kink was lost in the name of safety, the phenomenal Eau Rouge turn remains, and is one of the most spectacular curves in all of motorsports, taken by Formula 1 cars flat-out. The rest of the course has a very old-school feel as it winds over and around the local hill-sides, providing the drivers the feeling of actually driving somewhere rather than just lapping in an enclosed stadium.
Rain at the start and end of last year's race made the difference, with Hamilton losing the win to a 25 second penalty (and finishing 3rd instead) and Raikkonen losing the win to the wall in the wet, leaving Massa with the 10 points. Heidfeld took second. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
The rain held off for qualifying, but nonetheless, some strange results. Virtually all of the bigger name drivers fail to qualify well, while Fisichella is able to find pace in the difficult sector 2 giving him pole position for Force India. Trulli finally puts his Toyota on the front row in second, with Heidfeld's BMW in third.

| Race Summary: |
A lap 1 wreck takes out most of the mid-packers, which was unusually made up of many of the normal race leaders. On the Safety Car restart, Raikkonen passes leader and pole-sitter Fisichella, setting up a terrific battle that ends with the Ferrari on top and the Force India in second. Vettel fights to take third place. And both BMW's round out the top five, with Kubica in front of Heidfeld.
Out of the race was championship leader Button, as well as Hamilton and Alonso. |
