The German Grand Prix comes back to the Nurburgring for 2009. The original "Ring" was a 17 mile course created out of the village loop surrounding the town of Nurburg. Dubbed the "Green Hell", it's still considered one of the most demanding courses ever created, and is used by many auto companies for vehicle testing.
Today's grand prix course is the much sterilized 3.2 mile "south loop" that features only a taste of the technical beast that was abandoned over safety concerns.
The 2008 race was held at Hockenheimring, and was dominated by Hamilton, even with a safety car period that bunched the field up. Piquet found himself on pit lane when the SC signs went up, lucking him into a second place finish. Massa took third. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
Rain skews the qualifying results, but the top of the stack remains all Brawn and RedBull, led by Webber to gets his 1st career pole after 130 starts.
McLaren raises their game to lock out the third row, finally getting both cars into Q3 since their slide down the standings started early in the season.

| Race Summary: |
Wet weather threatened but failed to play a part in the race as Webber turned his first career pole position into his first race victory.
Along the way Webber served a drive-thru penalty for lap 1 contact with Barrichello, who went on to finish 6th right behind his 5th place teammate Button, the first time the podium this season didn't include a Brawn car.
Vettel finishes 2nd to make the race a 1-2 for RedBull, with Massa putting in a great drive for 3rd. Rosberg finally turns the good practice pace of his Williams into decent points in 4th, while Hamilton makes nothing out of a decent starting spot due to an early tire puncture. |
