Round 2 Details:

Malaysia - 05 Apr 2009
Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix
Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Event Description:
Race Distance: 56 laps, 189.056 mi / 310.408 km

The Malaysian Grand Prix is held at the spectacular Sepang International Circuit. The first of the Hermann Tilke F1 tracks, this course has set the standard for new era F1 venues.

With two massive straightaways leading to the very difficult downhill decreasing radius double apex turn 1, there tends to seem like there's more passing opportunity than there actually is. Many passes on the straights tend to be given back in the T1-T2 complex.

The 2008 race was dominated by Ferrari who went unchallenged by the McLaren cars who were forced to start mid-pack due to blocking during qualifying. Raikkonen took the win, while Massa threw away a podium with an unassisted off. Kubica placed second, Kovalainen third.

Qualifying Summary:
Ferrari gets caught out when the track gained tons of speed at the end of Q1 leaving Massa in the pits sitting on his lap time as the field passed him by.

Brawn continues to show their speed with Button on the pole, and Barrichello in P4 (though he'll have to serve a 5 position penalty for changing his gearbox in practice). Toyota runs fast as well, putting Trulli on the front row. RedBull drivers Vettel and Webber both place high, with Vettel starting 13th after his 10 position penalty to server from Australia.

Race Summary:
Button holds on for a second win this season in a race shortened by a Malaysian monsoon.

While the track was dry, the racing was fantastic with lots of passing throughout the field. But when the rain came tire decisions and pit timing made all the difference.

Even with several stops for different tire compounds, Button found himself in the lead when the race was called. Heidfeld places second due to his strategy of running long on fuel and changing to full wet tires at just the right time. Glock takes third by taking intermediate tires during the early rain while everyone else jumped straight to full wets.

Trulli, Barrichello, Webber, Hamilton, and early front runner Rosberg round out the points position, which will all score half their normal values because the race was called with less than 75% of the scheduled laps complete.
