Round 15 Details:

Japan - 04 Oct 2009
Fuji Television Japanese Grand Prix
Suzuka International Racing Course, Suzuka City, Mie, Japan
Event Description:
53 laps, 307.573 km (191.224 mi)

The famous Suzuka figure-8 started life in 1962 as a test track for the Honda company. Today, it's one of the world's most famous tracks, and a driver favorite. A combination of fast straights, tight hairpins and chicanes, long dynamic sweepers, and elevations changes leads to many overtaking opportunities. In addition to the cross-over bridge/tunnel that allows the figure-8 layout, Suzuka's other famous element is 130R, a 130 meter radius curve taken flat-out in an F1 car.

Last year's Japanese GP was held at the rival Fuji circuit. Hamilton and Massa both earned penalties for aggressive driving, allowing Alonso to score the win. Kubica took second, Raikkonen third.
Qualifying Summary:
Qualifying results are a mess, due to 5 crashes, 3 red flags, and 7 penalties.

Eeking out a pole from the carnage is Vettel who needs a great start to keep his championship chances alive.

Truly inherits second adn Hamilton starts third as other drivers are penalized for gearbox changes and ignoring yellow flags.

The starting grid for Suzuka:

VET TRU HAM HEI RAI BAR ROS SUT
Race Summary:
The weather and craziness of practice and qualifying don't carry into the race for the most part. The exception is Alguersuari's big wreck in 130R that brings out the Safety Car.

Vettel holds off Hamilton on the start to go on to the race victory. Trulli loses second to Hamilton during at the first turn, but fights back to pass him during the final pit stops and places second. Hamilton finishes where he qualified in third.

Vettel's win helps him and RedBull stay alive for both the driver's and manufacturer's championships. The other two championship contenders, Barrichello and Button, finish 7th and 8th respectively.
