Round 18 Results:
Brazil - 02 November 2008
Grande Premio do Brazil
Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace (Interlagos), Sao Paulo, Brazil
Event Description:
71 laps, 305.909 km (190.067 mi)

The final race of the 2008 season is at Autódromo José Carlos Pace, otherwise known as Interlagos, which literally means "between lakes". The track is indeed situated on a hilly, swampy area between two lakes, resulting in a track with lots of elevation changes and notorious bumps on the sections slowly sinking into the wet ground (though the quality of the pavement was drastically improved in the 2007 repaving).

Last season's Brazilian GP was the championship decider between Hamilton, Alonso, and Raikkonen. Hamilton's 7 point championship lead meant he only needed to finish 5th to secure the championship. However a gearbox issue required Hamilton to manually reset his car's computer during the first stint of the race allowing his rivals to drive off into the distance. Alonso was unable to challenge the two Ferraris in the lead and finished third, which allowed Raikkonen to become the 2007 F1 champion with a race win.
Qualifying Summary:
Hamilton makes his championship chances a little slimmer by starting on row three while his rival Massa takes the pole. Raikkonen starts third, right behind his teammate as Trulli takes second in a surprise fast lap from the Toyota.

The starting eight for the final race of 2008:

MAS TRU RAI HAM KOV ALO VEL HEI
Race Summary:
It's rare for an F1 championship to come down to the final race, but in the final race of 2008, it came down not only to the last race, not only to the last lap, but to the last corner when Hamilton passed Timo Glock who attempted to finish on dry tires in the late race rain for fifth place which secured his 1 point advantage over race winner Massa.

It was heartbreak for Massa who wears his emotions on his sleeve. A win in front of his home crowd with Hamilton in 6th as he took the checkered was the best possible finish, but turned bittersweet as Hamilton made up one more position in the last corner.

Alonso and Raikkonen take 2nd and 3rd, with Vettel doing his best to act as a spoiler passing Hamilton late in the race and finishing 4th.

David Coulthard's final career F1 race ends on the fist lap as he's crashed out in turn 1.
