Race Distance: 58 laps, 191.12 mi / 307.574 km
Once again Australia hosts the opening round of the Formula 1 season at the wonderful Albert Park facility.
While this track is technically a temporary street course, because it's based upon park roads (much like Canada's Circuit) it drives like more like a permanent road course.
The 2007 season opener was dominated by Kimi Raikkonen in his Ferrari who won the race from pole position, setting the fastest lap and leading nearly every circuit of the course on his way to victory. Fernando Alonso took second. Lewis Hamilton was third in his first F1 race. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
While the rules for qualifying have changed slightly, the top of the chart still looks familiar, with Lewis Hamilton atop it, picking up right where he left off last season.
Qualifying surprises include a Toro Rosso in the top 10 driven by Sebastian Vettel, a Ferrari out after Q1 with Kimi Raikkonen parked after a fuel pressure issue stopped the car short of pit lane, and Fernando Alonso out after Q2 with a lackluster lap.

| Race Summary: |
One word sums up the race: attrition. With only 7 cars finishing the race (and we'll see about Reubens leaving the pits under red lights), all you had to do was run until the checkered flag to score points.
Just as in qualifying, Lewis Hamilton was able to keep his head to finish up front. But behind him was a chaotic race filled with wrecks, blown engines, offs, and safety cars.
Finishing second was Nick Heidfeld in the BMW, and scoring his first podium, Nico Rosberg takes third in the Williams. |
