70 laps, 191.8 mi / 308.77 km
Le Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours has been the home of the French Grand Prix since 1991, but 2008 is scheduled to be the final French GP at the track, in favor of a possible Paris based location. The course is relatively boring with few overtaking spots aside from the Adelaide hairpin (turn 5), which produces parade-like races. However the unusually short pit lane results in 3 and even 4 stop race strategies, making passing in the pits the primary means of improving your position.
In 2007 the race was won by Kimi Raikkonen who started 3rd right behind the pole position of his teammate Phillipe Massa who finished 2nd. Kimi was able to beat 2nd place Hamilton into turn 1, then pass his teammate in the pits. Hamilton finished 3rd. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
It seems Ferrari has this track figured out, as Raikkonen and Massa lock out the front row. Hamilton is third fastest, but will need to take a 10 grid spot penalty due to his pit lane incident with Kimi in Canada. Alonso turns in a nice lap and ends up fourth fastest, followed by Trulli in the Toyota.

| Race Summary: |
As hinted at in qualifying, it was all Ferrari in France. Raikkonen suffered a broken exhaust which allowed Massa to pick up the win without a fight, but Kimi was still able to hold on to preserve the Ferrari one-two. Jarno Trulli grabs his first podium in a long while for Toyota in third. Kovalainen comes back from a blocking penalty in qualifying to finish fourth. Kubica follows up his maiden victory with fifth place points, but that's not enough to keep him in the lead of the driver's championship that Massa takes over with his win.
Hamilton was unable to recover from the penalty from his accident in Canada to score any points, making the pit lane incident a double zero. |
