Round 7 Results:
Canada - 08 June 2008
Grand Prix du Canada
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Ile Notre-Dame, Montreal, Canada
Event Description:
70 laps, 189.69 mi / 305.27 km

The Canadian Grand Prix is held on Isle Notre Dame in Montreal at Circuit de Gille Villeneuve. For most of the year, the course is a simple road that follows the shape of the island's park. But for one week of the year, it's converted into one of Formula 1's fastest courses.

The most (in)famous part of the track is known as the "Wall of Champions", a barrier on the exit of the final chicane leading to the front straight that's taken several past F1 champs out of the race. Ironically, the wall is labeled "Bienvenue au Québec" (Welcome to Quebec).

At the 2007 race, Lewis Hamilton secured his first ever F1 victory, followed by the BMW of Nick Heidfeld and the Williams of Alex Wurz. Massa and Fisichella both were disqualified for leaving a closed pit lane. Robert Kubic suffered a massive high-speed shunt that sidelined him for the following round of the season while he recovered.
Qualifying Summary:
One year after Lewis Hamilton's first pole position, he's back in Canada, and starting first again. Robert Kubica returns to the site of his largest career wreck, and puts his BMW on the front row as well. Ferrari battles what appears to be traction issues exiting the hairpin and are relegated to starting 3rd (Raikkonen) and 6th (Massa).

As the track began tearing up during qualifying, the stewards decided to do some overnight paving of the course. That change, plus the chance of rain and wind on race day will make for a challenging Canadian GP!

Race Summary:
Robert Kubica squarely erases any bad memories of his 2007 crash by bringing home his first F1 victory in Canada. With his teammate's second place finish, BMW pulls within 3 points of the manufacturer's championship, but more impressively, the win pushes Kubica to the top of the driver's championship.

Of course Kubica's win may not have happened had Lewis Hamilton paid more attention in the pit lane. On pit out under caution, Hamilton removed himself as well as Kimi Raikkonen by crashing into Kimi's Ferrari as it waited at a red pit-out light.

On the podium behind Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, David Coulthard shows he's still got it with a third place finish. Timo Glock takes fourth, Felipe Massa in fifth, and Trulli, Barrichello and Vettel round out the top eight.
