Round 15 Results:
Singapore - 28 September 2008
Singtel Sinapore Grand Prix
Singapore Street Curcuit, Marina Bay, Singapore
Event Description:
61 laps, 192 mi / 309.087 km

The new street course in Marina Bay, Singapore will be the first ever F1 Grand Prix in Singapore, and the first ever Formula 1 night race.

The new course is similar to Valencia and Monaco in that it's a street circuit created from the city surface streets along the local harbor. The course has a complicated 23 turns, and will be run at night under street lights in order to put the live television broadcast into prime-time for European fans.
Qualifying Summary:
With the exception of a scare for Hamilton who squeaks by Q2 in 10th, qualifying went mostly "by the book" despite the new track and new time format.

Massa and Hamilton take the front row, Raikkonen and Kubica the second. Vettel comes off his win with speed enough for a seventh place start.

Race Summary:
The new track under the lights in Singapore made for a visually stunning race, but the on track action was much like Monaco, with very few passing opportunities. The Safety Car played a significant roll, bunching up the field on two occasions while wrecks were cleared.

Coming from a 15th starting position, and making great use of the 1st SC period, Alonso put his Renault on the top of the podium for his first win of the season, as well as his 50th career podium finish. By pitting just before the Safety Car left to control the field, he was able to refuel and get new tires just before the pits closed putting him in control of the race as other were forces to pit later or garner 10 second stop-and-go penalties for pitting in a closed pit lane.

Rosberg also fared well, bringing his Williams in home second. Hamilton places third, earning him 6 points over his closest championship rival, Massa, who places 13th and out of the points.

Also failing to score points was Raikkonen who crashed out from 5th with only a few laps to go in the dangerous turn 10 chicane, as a slight misstep over the curbs left him into the wall.
