44 laps, 191.492 mi / 308.176 km
The circuit at Spa-Francorchamps is one of the most storied courses in all of F1. The original 9.3 mile course created out of the public roads between Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot in 1924 has been reduced to a much safer 4.3 mile course. While the infamous Masta Kink was lost in the name of safety, the phenomenal Eau Rouge turn remains, and is one of the most spectacular curves in all of motorsports, take by Formula 1 cars flat-out. The rest of the course has a very old-school feel as it winds over and around the local hill-sides, providing the drivers the feeling of actually driving somewhere rather than just lapping in an enclosed stadium.
Even though Kimi Raikkonen is Finnish, Spa may be considered his "home track". Considering he's won the last three Belgian GPs, he sure drives like he's at home. In 2007's race at Spa, Raikkonen won the race from pole over his Ferrari teammate Massa. Alonso took third and Hamilton fourth. |
| Qualifying Summary: |
With the exception of Bourdais setting the fastest Q1 time, it was another Ferrari and McLaren show.
Hamilton comes out on top grabbing fast lap over Massa. Kovalainen takes third over Raikkonen setting up the McLaren line on the right of the grind, and the Ferrari line on the left of the grid.

| Race Summary: |
As usual for Spa, expect the weather to play an important role. The track was wet at the top of the hill for the start of the race, but it was the final 3 laps in the rain that made all the difference.
Raikkonen led from his lap 2 pass of Hamilton right up until the wet weather. When the rain came, Hamilton was close enough to force around the outside of Raikkonen in the bus-stop but ran wide and short-cut the second half of the chicane, and was forced to give the position back to Raikkonen, which lasted for all of a second before Hamilton passed again into La Source. From then on, it was spins and offs galore around the course, ending when Raikkonen spun into the wall at Rivage, and Hamilton limped home.
Also limping home was Massa in second, still on dry tires, but Heidfeld, who pit for intermediates, came blazing through the field during the last lap to take third.
However after the race, the stewards decided Hamilton never totally gave back his competitive advantage at the bus-stop, and docked him 25 seconds taking away his win and putting him in third. Massa inherits the win, and Heidfeld second. |
