Round 11 Results:
Hungary - 03 August 2008
ING Magyar Nagydij
Hungaroring, Budapest, Hungary
Event Description:
70 laps, 190.55 mi / 306.66 km

Built in 1986, the Hungaroring located near Budapest, Hungary was the home of many great battles during the turbo era of Formula 1. Today the track is known for its dry and dusty surface that has been raced in the wet only one time (in 2006 the wet Hungaroring gave Jensen Button his maiden victory). The slippy surface here makes one extra qualifying lap all that more important as the track get faster during each session's "rubbering-in".

The 2007 race in Hungary was the turning point for McLaren as Fernando Alonso's intentional blocking of his teammate in the pits during qualifying turned the teammates into intra-team rivals. Alonso's pole lap was taken away and Hamilton started the race from the first position, which he never relinquished on his way to victory. Kimi Raikkonen put up a good fight but finished second. Nick Heidfeld placed third, Alonso fourth, and Robert Kubica fifth.
Qualifying Summary:
For the first time since Monza last season, it's a McLaren front row with Hamilton on pole and Kovalainen in second.

Massa pushes his Ferrari to set the fastest lap overall (in Q2), but he was only able to be third fastest when it counted in Q3.

Kubic bounces back from a less than stellar German GP by starting fourth. Timo Glock surprises everyone by starting fifth after his big wreck last race, and Kimi surprises everyone by only qualifying sixth fastest.

Race Summary:
If practice and qualifying were an indication of how the race was going to go, the easy money was on a dominant McLaren performance.

But Massa changed all that before the first corner when a his fantastic start that vaulted him from third to first ahead of Hamilton and Kovalainen. From then on it was the Massa show as he stretched his legs on the field, assisted even more by second place Hamilton's puncture pushing him back in the field.

But Massa's dominant performance came undone when his motor failed with just three lap to go, placing Heikki Kovalainen in the right place at the right time to score his first F1 victory.

Timo Glock comes back from his heavy crash to haul his Toyota into second place, his first podium, eared thee hard way by fending off a charging Kimi Raikkonen who places third.

Alonso finishes fourth, Hamilton fights back from his tire failure to fifth.
